We commissioned a survey of GPs in Wales which found that around half of respondents felt limited consultation time is a barrier to early diagnosis of gynaecological cancers. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

🟣Stats Wales has published the latest gynaecological cancer waiting time figures for June 2026. In June, 46.3% of women with a gynaecological cancer started treatment within the 62-day target. This is down from 51.2% in May, meaning fewer than half of women started their treatment on time.

We welcome today's announcement that women will be offered HPV self-testing kits if they have not attended cervical screening appointments following invitations from the NHS in England. 👏 However, we are disappointed that this stops at the border. www.england.nhs.uk/2026/08/nhs-...

🟣Stats Wales has published gynaecological cancer waiting times for April 2026. April marks the second consecutive month in which waiting times have fallen, with only 39.2% of gynae cancer patients meeting the Welsh Government's 62-day target for timely treatment.

🟣Stats Wales has published updated waiting times statistics for February 2026. Overall waiting times for gynaecological cancer across Wales were 50.7%, meaning that half of patients suspected with gynae cancer were treated on time. Reminder that the national target is 75%.

Carrie “I am still waiting for my gyni operation it’s been 12 months. I had womb biopsies and became very ill, the hospital said I had to have an operation and was put on a waiting list to remove womb pollops and have more biopsies. I am still waiting even though they put me on the urgent list."

Joe, 64, from Swansea experienced chronic backache and post-menopausal bleeding. Her concerns were dismissed, so she went private where a scan revealed endometrial cancer. Thankfully, it was caught early. But it should not take going private to be heard.

On #InternationalWomensDay, we remember Claire. Claire died in May 2025 aged 42 from uterine leiomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer that is often diagnosed late. When Claire first presented with symptoms, she was told it was IBS. As months passed, she had to insist on further investigation.

HPV Awareness Day fell earlier this week, but the message is important all year round. HPV is very common and is linked to several cancers. Vaccination 💉 and screening 🩺 can significantly reduce the risk.

March is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month 💜 Ovarian cancer isn’t obvious. The symptoms can feel like things we all experience from time to time, bloating, discomfort, changes in appetite, which is why they’re sometimes missed.

Susan Stephen’s 42-year-old wife, Susan, died after delays and poor gynaecology care provided at Cardiff and Vale Health Board. Initially, there was a two-month delay in the GP referral. Then another doctor from the same practice referred her as USC (urgent suspected cancer).

World Cancer Day is a reminder that outcomes don’t just depend on treatment, they depend on timing. In Wales, delays in gynaecological cancer care remain severe. In November, only 32% of patients started treatment within the 62-day target, with wide variation between Health Boards.

A cervical screening test takes about the same amount of time as making a cup of tea. ☕ We know it can feel uncomfortable, awkward, or anxiety-provoking, those feelings are valid. But screening is one of the most effective tools we have to prevent cervical cancer. #ScreeningSavesLives
