TIL that the excess yeast from the Marston's brewery is sent down the road to become Marmite. From the book Miracle Brew by Pete Brown
Marston's take the yeast from the trough and keep it in yeast storage tanks, known as sputniks, which sit at each end of the Union room. What they don't need goes to a factory on the other side of Burton to become the core ingredient of Marmite

Excellent celebrations down the mall. But the greatest thing? Seeing girls AND boys wearing shirts with Kelly, Bronze, Williamson etc al. So many inspired kids

A Mastodon post from Jason Gorman that reads:
What makes LLMs work isn't deep neural networks or attention mechanisms or vector databases or anything like that.

What makes LLMs work is our tendancy to see faces on toast

Blimey, looks like there is a massive amount of smoke coming from somewhere in North West London.
Bit of London Skyline with Houses of Parliament in the distance but in the far distance there is lots of dark grey smoke

Ugh, just checked and turns out my pension plan contains Tesla shares (and 'masculine energy meta' as well). Guess I'll be spending my weekend trying to find a new one - expecting it to be hard though...)
A table showing top 10 holding of a pension plan with Apple at the top (5%), Tesla at 6th place (1.8%) and Meta at 7th (1.7%)

Todays#BookandaBeer takes place in The Distillers in Hammersmith. Tasty pint of Labyrinth (Marlow Brewery) and a fascinating book by @katefoxwriter75.bsky.social called 'Where there's muck there's bras' celebrating women from the north of England (most whom I'm ashamed to say I'd never heard of)

This week's #BeerAndABook comes to you from the Fentiman Arms in near Oval. A decent pint of Young's London Original and re-reading the absolutely excellent "You look like a thing and I love you" to try and get my head around a little more of the inner workings of AI (well, machine learning really)

And further down my end of #Walworth is going to be a new Burrito place and what I think is the location of the new Post Office. Add to that the new Sainsburys local hopefully opening soon opposite.
Photo of a closed Burrito place called Plan Burrito. Writing on the window say 'Sup Camberwell, Plan Burrito opening soon. Calling it Camberwell is a bit weird thoughPhoto of a shop with bright red shutters that are currently down

Such a missed opportunity to not show adverts during the half time break on the YouTube #WSL matches. 8.7k watching at the moment and we're all watching the 'making of' video in the car park _again_

Just returned my copy of The Bookshop, The Draper, The Candlestick Maker to the library: absolutely fascinating! Did you know that one of the first coffee shops was called Nandos?
Front cover of the book 'The Bookshop, the Draper, The Candlestick Maker: A history of the high street' by Annie GrayIn time, some developed specialisms, especially in London where you could choose from over 500 outlets. Lloyds was known for chopowners and merchants (Lloyds List emerged from here), while the Chapter was the best to hear the latest news. Will's was a literary salon, Nando's was favoured by lawyers, and Forrest's was the best place to encounter a Scot.
