In 1939, the Jewish population of Piotrków Trybunalski numbered 10,000 – approximately one-fifth of the city’s population. By October 1942, most of the Jews of the ghetto, among them many refugees from outside the city, were deported to Treblinka and murdered. youtu.be/EvSCTTxS0zU

Emil Burian was born #OTD in 1904 to a musical family: his father a baritone, his mother a soprano and his uncle a tenor. On 12 Mar 1941 Burian was arrested by the Gestapo, who destroyed many of his writings and compositions. #Dachau and #Neuengamme. holocaustmusic.ort.o...

Abe Foxman participated in Claims Conference social media campaigns and served on the Negotiating Delegation. An imposing figure in Jewish communal life, he survived the Holocaust as a child. Abe passed away on May 10 at 86. It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye. youtu.be/q5wkV3oYq3A

Agnes and Miriam Lindenblatt never knew what it was like to have grandparents. They were born shortly after WW2 to Holocaust survivors; their father, Vilmos Farkas, born in 1906 in Derecske, Hungary, and their mother, Terez Farkas née Weisz, born in 1919 in Napkor, Hungary. youtu.be/yPsLuCIdD2k

March 5, 1944, at 5 am, the Gestapo came to the Adler family’s door. They had been surviving by living under a false identity. Jermie and Freda Adler were not home and survived the Holocaust. Chaje, Bertha, Nelly and Zigmund Adler were home and arrested and did not survive. youtu.be/Op6r5nyH7yw

Holocaust survivor Ezra Ben Gershom (1922-2006) was born in Wurzburg as the fifth child of a German Jewish family. He survived the Holocaust by living under a false identity, including eluding the Gestapo by being on the move and sporting a Hitler Youth uniform. #RememberThis

Holocaust survivor Barbara Ledermann Rodbell remained in hiding until Amsterdam was liberated by Canadian troops. Her father, Franz, mother, Ilse and sister, Susanne, were murdered in Auschwitz. Barbara immigrated to the US in Nov 1947. She and her husband, Martin Rodbell, raised four children.

"Between the Wires" tells the history of the Janowska camp in Lviv, Ukraine. Located in a city with the third-largest ghetto in Nazi-occupied Europe, Janowska remains one of the least-known sites of the Holocaust, despite being one of the deadliest. @waitmanwbeorn.com is a former #SaulKagan Fellow 👏

The Claims Conference highlighted the future of Holocaust education at the House of Austrian History with the presentation of a virtual reality study. The study demonstrated how technology can preserve the memory of the Shoah for future generations and showed the strong learning impact of VR.

There are an estimated 196,600 Jewish Holocaust survivors globally, living across 90 countries. This is down from the 220,000 survivors estimated to be alive when the Claims Conference released this data in Jan 2025. The data forces us to accept that Holocaust survivors will not be with us forever.
