I had a "moment" this morning, whilst drinking my coffee. It was a realisation of one of the issues with streaming platforms. There's just... Too much choice.…

I have some good news and some bad news for my #HPC friends. Ansys 2025 R1 is now available.... Bad news is that it is now twice the size of 2024 R2 (looking at the number of DVD ISOs compared to last release). Best of luck to everyone...

Who would have thought that in todays age, I would have to create a secret, base64-encoded to store a simple one-line JSON string to do a github action... Because... I already use secrets so it _must_ be a risk i'm leaking a secret? What cold hell is this? @github.com please sort this out.

An #AI product idea: A search-engine that can filter out all #AI-generated content, and fact-check all items prior to displaying search results. Some people just want the real. The facts. Not opinion, not generated content. The cold, hard, original content so they can make up their own minds.

Today I was annoyed. #cert-manager didn't renew its own #letsencrypt certs... ...So here's a quick-and-dirty cronjob to do it in #K8s. The cert-manager-sa ServiceAccount needs ClusterRole and ClusterRoleBinding to manage certs, and kubeconfig stored as a secret. gist.github.com/CJCShadowsan...

The #WHPC breakfast at #CIUK2024 with @tobiasweinzierl.bsky.social discussing situations putting off contributors to coding was inspiring, and highlighted that comms in collaborative coding projects, are key. PRs rejected/corrected on review often highlights poor comms prior to the PR. #Code #HPC

People talk about the applications of #AI and almost always reference how much it can generate - I don't want AI to do the creative things for me; I want it to do the menial tasks for me that I don't want to do, freeing me up to be more creative. Give me an AI weekly food shopper.

Here's one for you lot working on #K8s... ...Has anyone noticed that Pod livenessProbe's findPortByName function has recently stopped working? I've had to change the name in my livenessProbe back to the actual port, or I get: Liveness probe errored: strconv.Atoi: parsing "http": invalid syntax

A throwback to 20 years ago, releasing GCOS for the #GameCube...! Reverse-engineering, working out how things work, and making stuff like this was fun - And if anything, probably got me more into digging right into hardware than ever (and so probably got me working in #HPC in a roundabout way).

Great job for Team UKSCC, winning this years #SC24 IndySCC on debut! Some of these started out in the #CIUK Student Cluster Challenge competition, so it's great that we can show that our best in the UK can go head to head on the world stage and compete.

Call for help #HPC/ #SC / #SC24 : One of the crates for the TexasTech booth never made it to Atlanta; they’re in need of: - AC power strips (preferably with long cords) - A couple of small computers to drive displays - Ethernet cables (at least 20' long) - A small network switch Booth 814
A mastodon post from Alan Sill saying:

If anyone in our #HPC circle of friends at #SC24 can spare a few items to help us out with a missed shipment, we'd appreciate a short-term loan of the following materials for at least a few days until we can get our shipment there:

 - AC power strips (preferably with long cords)
 - A couple of small computers to drive displays
 - Ethernet cables (at least 20' long)
 - A small network switch

Again, look for a spare-looking metal frame with some forlorn Texas Tech people at booth 814.

Want a #HPC and #AI platform where the #Research and #Teaching environments can be unified? Want a huge catalogue of applications out of the box? Want to tie into any auth provider to do it? Want on-prem & in-cloud support? Stop by the Eviden booth at #SC24 to know more. More sneaky peaks to come!
