A statement from the NWSL:

The National Women’s Soccer League is aware of an incident involving hateful language directed at Barbra Banda during this weekend’s match between Gotham FC and Orlando Pride. We are united in our message: this behavior is unacceptable and has no place in our league or in our stadiums.

Gotham FC and the NWSL are working together to further investigate the incident and take additional action where appropriate under the league’s Fan Code of Conduct. We are committed to ensuring that our venues are safe and respectful environments for all — especially for the athletes who represent the very best of our sport. Barbra Banda is both an exceptional player and person, and the NWSL is immensely proud to support her as a member of our league.

As a league, we remain committed to holding individuals accountable for conduct that violates our standards and values, and to reinforcing the inclusive spirit of the NWSL community.

Take nothing away from Lauren James that is some strike to win a game late on, but I can understand the frustration of Sorensen, a player dropped from height probably could have stopped play. #cheeve

So now we know, #mcwfc, 4 games against Chelsea in March. They say it’s good to play against the best you can, improves you as a team. Chelsea have proved themselves over the past few years, a good test of our level with players starting to come back.

Fantastic performance from #mcwfc tonight. Aoba great again, Mary was on fire, Kerolin growing into the team, and great to have Naomi back at the back.

Just too many sloppy passes and turnovers today, not been a good season in the league against the top 3. Focus now turns to cup action and trying somehow to secure a top 3 spot. #mcwfc

How we feeling blues? That was a tough one to take. Signs were there against Everton, despite possession at times we lack creativity in attack and surety in defence. Some really sloppy passing against a hungry red team. That’s the league gone, hoping this year is a cup year. #mcwfc

Wasn’t to be tonight. We cheered them, often whilst peeking through fingers at times, proud of the effort but they were a stronger and fuller squad today, we were depleted and nervy. Survived an absolute onslaught at the start, but just couldn’t muster enough to keep Barca quiet.
