The Energy Price Cap went up by 3.6% today. If you're currently on a standard variable rate energy tariff, switching supplier or tariff could help you save money this winter ❄️ Our guide to switching could help, find it at the link in first comment ⤵️ bit.ly/4bvd0ca
A graphic showing text about the energy price cap, describing it as setting a maximum rate that energy suppliers can charge for each energy unit and the daily standing charge. It notes that this applies to standard variable tariffs.Image of a power strip with plugs connected. Overlaid text reads: "The cap doesn’t limit your total bill. Your final bill depends on how much energy you use, but the price cap ensures that standard variable tariffs reflect the wholesale cost of energy." The quarterly energy price cap will rise by 4% from 1 October 2026. This will be an increase of around  £5  per month for the average household. This is a cap on energy unit price plus standing charge, not a cap on total bills.  More ⬇️   ow.ly/UsNC50ZQU1w

Large text reads: “The price cap will rise by 4% from today.” Smaller text underneath reads: “This will be an increase of around £5 per month for an average household on a supplier’s standard default tariff.” A white information icon appears in the bottom left. The word “PRICE CAP” is displayed vertically in orange on the right-hand side, with the Ofgem logo in the bottom right corner.

🚨 New research published today: More than 1.1 million low-income families are facing an acute cost-of-housing crunch as the gap between cheap local rents and the benefit support private renters can claim is set to reach a record high this October 👇️ buff.ly/nFQiNcO
Quote graphic
Stephen Hunsaker, Economist at the Resolution Foundation, said:
“The gap between average rents and Local Housing Allowance levels is set to reach a record high this October, and failing to repeg LHA to actual rents in next month’s Budget could lock in a freeze for another year, and see the gap reach 30 per cent by March 2028.
“Rather than primarily benefitting landlords, our new analysis shows that the last time LHA was repegged to local rents in April 2024 it was tenants that benefited, with the fraction of LHA recipients facing a shortfall between their rents and the amount they could claim dropping significantly.
“With many tenants receiving housing support already going without essentials to pay their rent today, the Government should restore the automatic annual linking of LHA to relieve the pressure on low-income families in the private rented sector.”

Today’s @ofgem.gov.uk price cap rise pushes energy prices to a 3-year high. Ofgem Announcement: shorturl.at/UnHG8 Our response 👇
quote reads- Energy bills remain unsustainable as living costs outpace incomes, leaving more people trapped in escalating debt.

The government must deliver a comprehensive package of support this winter. By removing policy costs from electricity bills, reforming the Warm Home Discount, and finally delivering the Debt Relief Scheme, the government could keep around £400 a year in the pockets of those who need it most.

A pie chart titled "Why people actually need food banks" lists the following reasons: Job losses and redundancy, not enough income for essentials, rising housing costs, insecure work, unable to work due to disabilities or caring responsibilities, not getting enough support from social security, facing unexpected life events like illness or a death in the family, and experiencing domestic abuse. The chart has a dark green background.

🔎 A quick snapshot of what our advisers saw in June. Single stories point to wider patterns- here is why we use frontline evidence to expose unfair policies and push for systemic change👇
Each year we help tens of thousands of people. That gives us a unique, real-time perspective on where policies and systems work- and where they fall short. In June our advisers reported a range of unfair issues, including: - Digitally excluded residents facing hardship and escalating debt, simply because they cannot access online only public and essential services. - An energy company aggressively pursuing a customer for a large debt, despite their supply being capped 18 years ago.- Someone facing pressure to pay a final invoice for an incomplete 15- week building project- originally a 6 week contract- plagued with issues. We record these issues because single stories point to wider patterns. it allows us to spot problems early, show the real impact on peoples lives, expose unfair systems and practices. This evidence helps us move beyond temporary fixes. We use it to improve local services, influence policy and push for fairer systems and processes.
