It's a Texas state law, so *technically* nothing to do with Trump. I'm sure he'd love it, but it's just run of the mill Texas oppression, not the orange kind.

It is/was inevitable. You can't have a safe city in an unsafe state. It can buffer you a little, but it can never fully protect you.

Unfortunately, I don't think people realize that "no criminal record" is nearly impossible. If you can't legally get a license then you can't drive to work, to a job you also can't legally have. There needs to be nuance between forced criminality of undocumented existence and willful violent crime

I have hope and also fear. Companies like @textio.com are trying to use AI for good, and it's an interesting concept to find justice in pitting AI against itself XD That was a really interesting article, thank you.

Does covert government effort = regular marketing? Because even if she was, that would just be like... campaigning and marketing. There's nothing all that scandalous about either of those concepts

Do you mind sharing how you found them? My partner is in this situation and is terrified to step through the door for the first time. I'm less so, but I haven't been in a LONG time because of trauma.

When in doubt, get a drs note that lists your meds and their dosages and states that it's necessary to your health to have these meds with you. That will work in most situations (but make sure if you're going to a non english speaking country, you get that document translated)

closeup of gray tabby face with light green eyes. He's staring into the camera very soulfully, pictured from directly above as he sits on tan carpet blurred behind him.Another gray tabby with one tipped ear sits directly on top of a puzzle that is clearly in progress. He has almost light lime green eyes and wild whiskers that go in every direction. He has a slight mischievous crook to his tail and appears to be considering violence, based on his mostly dilated eyes.

But I think they should be fiercely local. Holiday expenses have just wiped out everyone's accounts, you've just dealt with family, so this one should be for meeting the neighbors.

Absolutely true. And then finding exceptions, and later learning it was because they had a crush on you, AKA you still didn't exist apart from them finding you attractive. I gained a fair bit of weight freshman year and, paradoxically, watched myself socially disappear.

Anecdotally, I'd guess that more abusive marriages are dissolved no-fault than ever are for abuse grounds. This is SO awful to advocate for. Leaving is dangerous enough, conditioning leaving on leveling accusations that will most likely cause escalation is irresponsible.

My birthday was this week and my friends, family and partner got me puzzle things that I'm now happily working away at. It's a silly thing, but it's really nice to be unplugged for a bit at a time

They were banned because they gave women unrealistic expectations of men having emotional depth and consideration toward their partner. It was even framed that way - porn shows beautiful women wives can't live up to, romance novels show caring men husbands can't live up to.

Cirrus @cirrrrus.bsky.social · 28/09/2023
In church they taught women that romance novels were porn for women and therefore should be avoided as stringently. Now, I get it, there's some explicit sex scenes, but that's not why. They were prohibited because like porn has unrealistic physical aspects, they have unrealisitic EMOTIONAL aspects

No, for real, it's lifelong. And if your parents don't know and your friends don't know you are out. of. luck. And then what works wonders for someone with hair nearly JUST like yours looks ridiculous with yours... it's a whole thing.

I don't know any single person, whatever the political affiliation, who thought the child tax credit expansion was a bad idea. I guess with all of the other chaos we just didn't fight for it hard enough. I will likely never have kids but that's what my taxes SHOULD be paying for.

Would you be willing (or have you already) to tell them why? They might actually not know if they're not very online/don't realize how big of an impact it has. They might not care, but they might learn better and do better, especially for someone who wants to like them

unfortunately, the malicious can hide behind the ignorant and guide them to their goals 😭 Very few of the lock step not online "pro life" people are evil. But the leadership sure as hell knows exactly what they're doing.

Made a Covid safety guide for people who are just now tuning back in. The hyperlinked version can be found at CovidHelp.org. Please share this with your family and friends. It's up to us to keep our communities safe.
COVID SAFETY 101  (2023)

Covid (SARS-Cov-2) is short for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. The virus is airborne and neuroinvasive. It causes vascular disease and dysregulates immune systems. The pandemic is not over, the virus never became milder,  and the government has continually lied about the threat. Because the virus is being allowed to spread freely, more dangerous variants are constantly emerging. We are all in serious danger.

COVID IS A BSL3 PATHOGEN

Biosafety level three pathogens are those that cause serious or potentially lethal disease through inhalation. Other BSL3 pathogens include yellow fever, West Nile virus, and tuberculosis. When Covid is handled in a lab setting, this is what people wear (left). Covid has always been classified as BSL3. Omicron is not mild.

COVID IS AIRBORNE

Covid is airborne. Staying six feet apart does not keep you safe. Social distancing was never enough to prevent transmission. Masks work, when worn properly. Washing hands and getting vaccinated do not stop Covid infections, because the virus is in the air and can linger in the air for hours.

LONG COVID IS A DIRE EMERGENCY

10-70% of people never recover from their infections. At least one in ten infections leads to Long Covid, a severe disease that has no cure. Long Covid is the third-leading neurologic disorder in the US. Covid can persist in the body long after infection (we don't yet know how long). Reinfections are far more dangerous than initial infections, and the damage is cumulative.

Image: An illustration of stick figures of varying sizes against a blue background, representing a large group of people.

MANY INFECTIONS ARE ASYMPTOMATIC

Many Covid cases are asymptomatic, meaning many people with Covid do not realize they are sick. And even in symptomatic cases, people often transmit Covid before any symptoms appear. This is why an approach based on sick people staying home cannot and will not work. Up to 60% of transmission comes from sources who are presymptomatic and asymptomatic.

VACCINES AREN'T ENOUGH

Herd immunity is not possible. Our bodies are not building immunity to this virus, which has achieved immune escapeby mutating so much. Covid is dysregulating immune systems. Current vaccines do not prevent transmission, death, or Long Covid. And most people’s vaccines are out of date. Masks (N95s/KN95s work best) are our only protection from infection.

What a FANTASTIC alternative! I have never heard this word but it is beautiful and why the hell does no one use it?? It even starts with the same letter, why does anyone ever type the word turgid in a world where the tumescent exists?
000
Cirrus @cirrrrus.bsky.social · 25/08/2023
Important question: Does ANYONE find the word "turgid" sexy? I have to know. Are all authors who write sex scenes just deluded, or am I the only one who finds that word gross? ....I was with you in the scene until I read the phrase "turgid peak" and now I am gagging a little.
