HUGE DAY FOR ME...as of 15 minutes ago, The Spindles of Spacetime has FINALLY dethroned Of the Dragon, of the Stars as my longest written work OTDOTS has held that title since 2013, with 286k words. Unlike OTDOTS, Spindles is still in progress (about 60% done) and will continue to extend its lead.

I started learning GameMaker a few days ago and built an engine that parses dialogue lines into a branched VN-style cutscene. it's all placeholder assets rn but I'm having an absolute blast ft characters from a secret new project 🤫

I think I've already silently decided that this will be lineless and "cel shaded" so the sketch is gradually fading out of existence (that's how I work usually...I gradually darken the sketch as I'm filling in details, then gradually remove it as I'm colouring)

wasn't happy with the lack of structure on the left side of the cliff (left) so I started trying to set out the layers (right)...actually this still doesn't make the structure super clear so maybe it's time to block in values

when I'm drawing a detailed scene, I tend to go at it in passes, starting with the big rough scribbles and then progressively refining sections as I decide what they'll be. like I'll look at this dangly thing and go "ok that's gonna be a kudzu vine" and then I fill it in with details

Let me take a moment to spin an analogy about crochet. I learned to crochet amidst lockdown-imposed isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic. When a crocheter is looking to make something, they usually begin by searching for a pattern. This is made easier by the internet, where communities of crocheters often share their patterns, transmitting them communally across internetworks.
