Went to the harvest event at the Ulster folk museum last weekend, it was most excellent, got to pick potatoes (and bring a bag home) go for a long walk, see many chickens & ducks etc and confirmed that the Entwives are still in the field up top with the Stone Age relics and fancy sheep.

You need one of these then. We used to have various devices for this with varying levels of usefulness. I remember one that was a sort of metal chic shape. Haven’t found a picture yet.
Photo of a frankly terrifying device which will allegedly remove the top of an egg. It’s like a gaping jaw full of metal teeth.

So harvested wild carrot seeds from the garden. They smell lovely. And online alleges they are edible found a lovely French article about them and surprised myself by being able to read a lot of it. My gcse teacher would be amazed. They taste somewhere between fennel and cardamom? A warm spice.

It was this classic cover. And for the full sensory experience think hardback, plastic library protective cover and old library book smell.
Classic version of the cover of The Hobbit, by JRR Tolkien. It’s the one that is all blue, green, white and back and shows a view of the Misty mountains rising in the distance over a thick green forest with two eagles soaring above.

You’d think, but really they just can’t remember which way round they go. Also as we’re in the topic, a handy sandwich chart every home needs.
No division not cut up, per bend diagonal top left to bottom right, per bend sinister same but bottom left to to right, per pale cut up the middle top to bottom, per fess cut in half cut across the middle left to right, per saltire two diagonal cuts giving four wee triangles, quarterly two horizontal cuts giving four wee squares, per pall three diagonal cuts meeting in the middle it’s starting to get weird, paly five vertical cuts to make egg dipping soldiers, Barry five horizontal cuts to give egg dippy soldiers, bendy 7 diagonal cuts to give, well, soldiers of varying sizes and I’m not sure that ‘s that practical for bread? And finally border removed cutting the crusts off this can be combined with any of the previous configurations.

Allegedly meadowsweet seedlings, but the leaves don’t look right, yet. It’ll be interesting to see if they are what they were supposed to be, or something else that blew in after the slugs had all the original seedlings.

One thing that has amazed me about the wild carrot in my garden is the variety of the flower heads, some have the red dot in the, some don’t, some are white, some pink, some are wildly spread & delicate, some are lumpy like cauliflower. All from one seed head I spotted on a walk two years ago.

Mine is fairly pleasing, based on a vague recollection of mum saying I was born at some ungodly hour of the morning. Electric cyan appears to be my favorite colour as a child as I was told blue was for boys and I was very much a tiny rebel.
My Pantone birth chart palette, four colours, linked to birth chart astrology stuff. Aquarius sun, electric cyan, a very nice blue, Capricorn moon, slate reserve, a solid grey, Scorpio rising, burgundy smoke, a dark reddish brown and Aries Venus, spiced coral a quite pleasant orange. I do not hate this.

Garden pics from today.
Probably nipplewort. Lots of this growing where the peas & beans are supposed to be. Lush green leaves against brown background of woody mulch. Chicory, seems to be an every other year thing now. Blue flower against green grass.Mysterious tree clipping at the back wall. It appears my neighbour “accidentally” dropped some. Dead brown branches against green leaves 9on the ground. My onion “crop” autumn sets f red onions that are the same size they were last autumn. And a few small garlic bulbs snails really like these it appears. Collection of tiny bulbs in a garden sieve.

Argh!
Two pumpkin seedlings in a copper tapped milk carton sleeve The absolute audacity of the tiny slug in found, inside the copper ringed area on the plant. It’s only about 3mm long. Well, that’s that answered. The moth orchid I rescued via Olio last year has flowered again, the improbably blue and pink colouring was indeed dye. The soft white reality is gorgeous but probably less gimmicky?
“Free” orchid from olio last year with spectacularly colouring light blue round the edges, pink veins, some yellow on inner petals. Same orchid with new flowers this year, completely white, the yellow on the inner petals was real though.
