One of the ‘anti-Net Zero brigade’’s favorite myths is that the UK is only responsible for 1% of the world’s emissions. What should we bother lowering our emissions when China, the US and India emit so much more?

Please DM or reply with examples including class, institution, & why - would so appreciate it! The evidence we rarely hear about 😆

I can’t predict the environment my kids will inherit. None of us can. But ecology has taught me a lot about living in an unpredictable world. For one: resilience doesn’t come from optimising for the conditions you expect. It comes from keeping different paths alive for futures you can’t predict.

This is interesting. You get assigned to being born at a random place and time in history, to see what a typical person's life might have been like then. Unfortunately I was born in 1403 in the valley of Mexico and died at age 4 from dysentery.

NZ has spent years preparing for H5N1 bird flu. For some species, it may not be enough
With H5N1 now in New Zealand, protecting the most threatened birds will involve difficult decisions, careful prioritisation – and sometimes chance.

New Zealand’s government plans to reallocate >$100m in science funding, partly justified by claims NZ “overweights” ag & environmental science vs peers, and underinvests in tech. I checked the numbers behind that claim. Some of it holds up. Most of it doesn’t. 🧵 www.mbie.govt.nz/dmsdocument/...
