Fans of Doc Savage have always felt a kinship with the Old Man. His stories have been collected in a book due very soon from author William Preston. Fans of Asimov's, F&SF, and Analog are sure to recognize the name. #f&sf #asimovs #sciencefiction #sf #docsavage #oldman

How can people have no feelings? How can they ignore their friends? Easy to be proud Easy to say no Especially people who care about strangers Who care about evil and social injustice Do you only care about the bleeding crowd? How about a needing friend? I need a friend

Over 70,000 parents in 21 states were referred to law enforcement for alleged substance use during pregnancy, per 6 years of data reported by The Marshall Project. Many cases began with false positives from flawed drug tests, sometimes triggered by prescribed meds.

Tens of Thousands of Mothers Were Flagged to Police Over Flawed Drug Tests at Childbirth

The Marshall Project found more than 70,000 cases referred to law enforcement over allegations of substance use during pregnancy — and that’s a significant undercount.

Through the winter’s ice and cold
Down Nicollet Avenue
A city aflame fought fire and ice
‘Neath an occupier’s boots
King Trump’s private army from the DHS
Guns belted to their coats
Came to Minneapolis to enforce the law
Or so their story goes
Against smoke and rubber bullets
By the dawn’s early light
Citizens stood for justice
Their voices ringing through the night
And there were bloody footprints
Where mercy should have stood
And two dead left to die on snow-filled streets
Alex Pretti and Renee Good

Oh our Minneapolis, I hear your voice
Singing through the bloody mist
We’ll take our stand for this land
And the stranger in our midst
Here in our home they killed and roamed
In the winter of ’26
We’ll remember the names of those who died
On the streets of Minneapolis

Trump’s federal thugs beat up on
His face and his chest
Then we heard the gunshots
And Alex Pretti lay in the snow, dead
Their claim was self defense, sir
Just don’t believe your eyes
It’s our blood and bones
And these whistles and phones
Against Miller and Noem’s dirty lies

Oh our Minneapolis, I hear your voice
Crying through the bloody mist
We’ll remember the names of those who died
On the streets of Minneapolis

Now they say they’re here to uphold the law
But they trample on our rights
If your skin is black or brown my friend
You can be questioned or deported on sight

In chants of ICE out now
Our city’s heart and soul persists
Through broken glass and bloody tears
On the streets of Minneapolis

Oh our Minneapolis, I hear your voice
Singing through the bloody mist
Here in our home they killed and roamed
In the winter of ’26
We’ll take our stand for this land
And the stranger in our midst
We’ll remember the names of those who died
On the streets of Minneapolis
We’ll remember the names of those who died
On the streets of Minneapolis

"indie" has been around since 30s jazz. At first it was all about distribution, then indie labels, then (as said above) it was about the sound. Today's world with so many distribution channels, I'd say you're "indie" if you're promoting yourself without major management. YMMV

By '61, Rita Letendre was at a turning point. Emerging from the Automatistes & moving beyond gestural abstraction, she embraced bold, structured forms that defined her mature style. Jour d’été (1961) has been in private hands until this auction. #art #auction cowleyabbott.ca/artwork/AW50...

By 1961, Rita Letendre was at a pivotal point in her career. Having emerged from the circle of Automatistes and having exhibited in their last group show in 1955 in Montreal, Letendre quickly moved from gestural, painterly abstraction toward the bold, structured forms that would define her mature style. During this period she was beginning to receive serious national attention. She had just presented solo exhibitions in Montreal and Toronto and had been included in important group shows like "The Non-Figurative Artists of Montreal" at the National Gallery of Canada in 1956 and "The Biennial Exhibition of Canadian Painting" in 1961. Letendre’s paintings from this time, including "Jour d’été", 1961, feature dense, highly textured impasto and sweeping, explosive strokes of colour in reds, blacks, and whites. In this instance, the artist has added accents of cheerful lime green, perhaps in reference to the title, translating to “Summer Day”.

A marriage dissolves over the course of 14 songs. Lily Allen's West End Girl isn't feel good, musically amazing, or lyrically novel, but it grabs you from the start and doesn't even let go when the album finishes. #lilyallen #music #strangerthings www.youtube.com/watch?v=97ep...
