I don't think this rant is going anywhere, i have no great point to make. Goblin Tools has had an amazing impact on my life, and that of almost 2 million people in just the last month. I don't intend on stopping. But my brother in christ i am _tired_

And I make lots of mistakes. Goblin Tools seems really simple, and in many ways it is, but it has tons of edge cases and complex bits and every time i fuck up, i can tell how bad the fuckup was by how flooded my inbox is. There are aspects of it that genuinely keep me up at night, daily.

You get kind of used to seeing the numbers on analytics pages, but like 48 hours ago i put out a completely rewritten version of the android app, and by now it's present on 17000 phones. 17k phones have it installed already. If i make a mistake, have a serious bug, thousands of people are impacted.

I sometimes get asked how i deal with the pressure of goblin tools, and usually it's something i can kind of ignore. but once in a while, like right now, i have a glass of wine and i sit and the scale of it kind of seeps in. I don't talk about it much, but GT has a userbase measured in millions.

Not only are the copycats still going, they're proudly posting on Reddit about it now. I'm too old for this

I'm already expanding the value of subs. Starting with the Formalizer, which now has a few new bits to it: Favourites: quick pick your preferred tones Custom tones: add any you think are missing My voice: give a few samples, it'll write to sound like you Compare: see multiple options side by side.

There have always been some features I've wanted to provide in Goblin Tools, but that I had never been able to. A proper on-server todo list, templates, history, shareable lists, that kind of stuff. I resisted because they require a subscription cost to be manageable. Well... I stopped resisting.

I'm still twiddling with some of the registration flow and the tech, so if you run into any trouble, do let me know! On here, DM, help@goblin.tools, any way you see fit. It works on my machine, but who knows if it works on yours :D

Yeah it's been a struggle. I've been told so many times 'why don't you sell X' but for a product like this, unless i really feel like i can't offer it any other way, asking subscription money would just not feel right.

Bram De Buyser @chton.bsky.social · 02/08/2026
I don't like subscriptions either, and I know they're a tax on neurodivergent people. That's why I've resisted for so long. But it's the only real way I can offer these things, and it's all stuff that's been requested so many times it feels like doing you all a disservice by not having it!

This is not Goblin Tools going paid. It's not a trial or anything like that. Everything that's in Goblin Tools right now stays exactly where it is, and anything in the future that is doable to offer for free (i.e. infrastructure or other costs aren't huge), will stay free. This is just extras.

I am sorry about your lists! But i'm very grateful for your help in this, it's been genuinely invaluable!

Bram De Buyser @chton.bsky.social · 15/05/2026
You might be able to recover by hitting the undo a few times. Hard to say as it depends on what else you've done in the meantime, but it does store a bit of history so hopefully your long list is in there somewhere!
010
Bram De Buyser @chton.bsky.social · 15/05/2026
If the list doesn't come back by itself, you can try the undo button at the bottom right below the list. That should allow you to step backward and recover some, if the new fix did work. However, it should be resolved for the future so shouldn't happen again going forward!

Bram De Buyser @chton.bsky.social · 15/05/2026
Fix should be up, if you could try again and see if that resolves it, i would be very grateful!

Thank you! This is enormously helpful! The glyph errors are a known issue with fontawesome, i will have to upgrade to a new version but they're not related the problem. But i have now been able to reproduce it here for the first time, i'll have a fix up soon.

Bram De Buyser @chton.bsky.social · 15/05/2026
Huh! I'd be very curious to see what your console output looks like when that happens. Would it be possible for you to open the web developer tools on the console, reproducing it, and sending me a screenshot of the console logs? there'll be a lot in there but maybe i can spot it. I do apologise!

Bram De Buyser @chton.bsky.social · 15/05/2026
Oh i see, most problems i've seen have come from iOS users on this! That's super interesting. Can you look at the very bottom of the page, does it have a version number there? If it's on 3.2.30, that's the latest version, if it says anything else you can click it to force a refresh.

Bram De Buyser @chton.bsky.social · 15/05/2026
I have had a few other reports of that happening, it is definitely a bug! I actually literally just now (2 minutes ago) pushed an update that should make that better. If you open the app and go to a different tool, then back, your lists should be back. If they're still not there, let me know!

Pushed huge upgrade to goblin.tools Should help with stability, and it adds a few things people have asked for since... forever. Multiple todo lists! Deadlines! A prioritisation button! And a new tool! Go give it a shot, it might help make todos less overwhelming.

I'm also officially looking for a sponsor for it. Some company who would like to support it in return for showing their logo on the site in a non-intrusive way. If you know anyone that fits, send them my way!

Big News! Arcology has been selected for CivTech Scotland Round 11 🎉 We're building a recording and workflow assistant to free teachers from incident admin. Less paperwork, less stress, more time for students. #CivTechRound11 #CivTechScotland #CivTechChallenge

What a fantastic note, i had honestly never considered that! You're absolutely right, too. I've swapped out the icon with something that looks more like a sun. You'll probably need a hard refresh to see it :D

Goblin Tools has just had a big update, fixing a lot of bugs with translations and ToDo lists. If you had sync issues, or unde/redo, or performance problems, hopefully they're all solved now! You might need to close and re-open the app to load it. If any of you still run into issues, let me know?

By popular request: Goblin Tools has a ko-fi now! ko-fi.com/goblintools Goblin Tools isn't at risk but it is getting a bit tighter around the waistline. Serving 2 million people every month is an awesome impact to have, but it does give one cold sweats from time to time :D

I had a few more gremlins to work out of this, if you had trouble switching languages, sorry about that! On the plus side, the site is now quicker to navigate. Quick as hell. And that will help the apps too!

Easily the most requested feature ever on Goblin Tools, and i finally decided to stop dragging my feet on it. Internationalisation is here! From now on, you can use it in your own native language, completely. Do you see a mistake? Need an extra language? let me know!

(There's currently an issue with it on mobile, it'll jump back to english but responses will come in your own language! Should have that fixed shortly)

Fantastic to see that even big companies like Grammarly are stooping to copying functionality either already present in Goblin Tools, or stuff we're working on with Teacher Tools. And doing it _badly_.

For the #Dotnet crowd, because i wasn't going to spend hours getting this fine tuned only to not share it: github.com/Arcology-pub... Do you have a bunch of nuget packages but don't want a repo for each, AND don't want a single line change to version up all of them? Got it covered.

I'm aware of this, but it's not the AI overview being bad (it often is) or even individual sites disappearing. I'm still getting results from sites i expect, but they're less relevant than i'd have expected from the same query even a few days ago. It's like it's just substituting more words.
