More dumb things about the modern world: 1. Can't actually call the Best Buy store in my town (one gets an AI agent and then an overseas one), 2. No tarragon at either grocery store I visited, 3. No fresh grapefruit juice, & only humongous bottles of it (I need a little as I'm baking Campari bars).

Watched the first episode of this season of Halloween Baking Championship on Food Network. Contestants had to make a cake based on their fave Halloween memory. Mine was going to a Leonard Cohen concert... so, thinking about song lyrics, I guess my cake could be a burning violin? Not sure.

Honey, pear, and goat cheese tart that I picked up for breakfast; the highlight of my day:

Dessert on a clear plastic plate, on a dark brown fake wood grain table. The dessert is a small round tart topped with "cups" of thick whipped cream that are partially filled with honey. The tart is lightly garnished with edible flowers.

The first time I heard Talking Heads' "This Must Be the Place" was as a snippet played on "Northern Exposure." I wrote "feet on the ground, head in the sky, make it up as we go along" on my Converse (I couldn't have been over 14), then probably didn't hear the rest of the song for 10 years or more.

Things that surprised us about Vancouver, BC: samosas sold at like every other business, constantly hearing seagulls outside, constantly smelling weed outside, French there being like Spanish here in Texas (often hearing conversations in this second language while out and about).

Regrets about Vancouver trip... didn't: eat sushi or ramen, go on the Grouse Mountain gondola, go to the bookstores we planned to (White Dwarf & Banyen, though we went to other ones), go to the Sonny Rollins tribute at Frankie's jazz club, eat a butter tart (not for lack of trying... shop was out).

I didn't see a single cat the entire time we were in Vancouver (Thursday-Tuesday). I'm glad they aren't running the streets, but we didn't even see one peeking out of an apartment window, etc. So weird!
