Today in small joys: for reasons, it’s particularly important I keep an eye on my blood pressure. I’ve had a Hilo (was Aktiia) wearable for years. But the only strap available was silicone, which irritated my skin, so I cobbled things. Until today! Because they’ve finally made a fabric strap! Yay!

What an excellent streak to have 😈 On another note, it’s #WorldAlzheimersDay. The Minute Cryptic app is brilliant, and the team have so far donated $123,000 to Alzheimer’s research raised from subscriptions, books and merch sales. Supporting them makes more fun stuff AND does good. A rare win-win.

e-books and audiobooks as well as physical copies. Whatever it is, it’s very, very bad.
Harper Collins has now confirmed that it has dropped Walliams's backlist, according to The Bookseller. The publication reported that the publisher will gradually phase out stock of Walliams's books in shops as well as e-book and audio versions available online.

The Independent has contacted Walliams and HarperCollins for comment.

Just caught this massive hornet on my car windscreen. Not quite sure what it was chomping on… another insect, by the looks of it? It was huge, at least 3cm I’d say.

I started questioning my own sanity and reached for every reference I could find on subjunctive mood, and… … I don’t feel this is an appropriate place to use it, but I’m struggling to pin down precisely WHY. In the end I’m going to take this advice relayed by @bcdreyer.social…

I’m just one person, but it’s my feeling (as a former teacher and current parent) that this is due to continued focus on phonics and mental arithmetic in English primary schools, plus a refusal to give up hand-written assessments and strong guidance that encourages schools to restrict mobile phones
Graph of the lates PISA scores for Reading, Mathematics and Science. Wales, OECD, N. Ireland and Scotland have all declined across the board. England has stayed steady, in the case of Science recovering after probably Covid-related dip to ~2005 levels. Daisy Christo...
@daisyc...

We are now in a slightly weird situation in which England's scores are basically the same as they were in 2012.

But whereas in 2012 England was about 20th - 25th in the world, now it is one of only a handful of countries to be in the top ten for every subject.
England & Estonia are the only two countries outside East Asia to come in the top 10 for reading, maths & science.

Yellow car! 🚖 (Also yellow tractor, but that definitely doesn’t count)
Your Southend

100 yellow cars and vehicles took over the streets of Southend on Saturday, all with one powerful purpose: raising awareness of childhood cancer
Organised by local Gold Geese Charity, the annual Yellow Car Convoy saw a huge stream of brightly coloured vehicles travel through Leigh, Southend and Thorpe Bay, turning heads along the route and shining a spotlight on children and families affected by cancer.
The charity had put out a call for yellow vehicles to take part and said it was amazed by the support from complete strangers who came together once again. This year, even a yellow tractor joined the convoy!Gold Geese supports local children and young people fighting cancer, along with their families, providing practical and emotional support during treatment and beyond.
Around 1,800 children aged 0 to 14 are diagnosed with cancer in the UK each year, with thousands more teenagers and young adults also receiving a diagnosis.
The charity is now hoping next year's event will have even more yellow vehicles taking part in the convoy.

By the way, if they wrote, a lot would change, but life isn't a place as sharp as "it gave up on you, what difference would it make if it came back," friends. A person can give up. They can come back. A person can do things they'll regret without batting an eye. This is the world, a place where everything can be made right—except death.

The older I get, and the more on fire the world seems to be the more I feel comforted and SEEN by Sir Terry Pratchett and Discworld.
Not because all the books are inherently comfortable so much as because they feel like someone taking you by the hand and saying: "l know. I'm just as angry about this bullshit. But we can hold hands. But the sun still rises. But hope is still important. Hope wears steel toed boots and smiles with pink and bloody teeth and will make you laugh and will make you cry.
It's not okay. But we're in the shit together, and some day it's gonna be less shit."
This got away from me.
