I agree with you broadly about 2666 in that it wasn't necessarily enjoyable, but I did find it very powerful in a difficult to articulate, post-apocalyptic kind of way, and it's probably one of my favourite books, even if it baffled me. But it's also nine million pages long so

Other stuff of his that's shorter that I can easily recommend if you're interested in a stranger's recommendations are Amulet and Nazi Literature in the Americas, which I thought had a real Borges vibe. In terms of longer stuff, The Savage Detectives is also (for Bolano) pretty approachable.

It's actually not true that NOBODY does this outside of anime - I'm a China historian and there are some texts that are often referred to by their Chinese names in preference to their English names, even when speaking in English. It feels like an edge case, though.

This involves but is not limited to 39 members of the cast being identically-dressed Viltrumites. When I looked at the roster and saw Allen, Battle Beast, Lucan, Conquest, Monster Girl, and Titan, my enthusiasm dipped noticeably because they all seemed like they'd be likely to play similarily.

I think an underrated element of the failure of Invincible VS was the source materia; most characters' powers are Punch - Fast Punch, Slow Punch, Mace Punch, Hair Punch. Even if the characters might PLAY differently, most of the characters on the cast looked like they'd play roughly the same.

I also acknowledge that 'I was stoked about this live-service game' is a weird-as-hell thing to say in the year of our Lord 2026 but I felt like Diablo 4 was just fun to play and the monetization, while egregious, didn't feel intrusive to me during the moment to moment process of playing the game.

Bummed by the announcement that Diablo IV is effectively over except for seasons. I enjoyed the idea of a semi-live-service Diablo that iterated over many years, adding characters and activities. I recognize companies gotta company, but Diablo 4 never really got to live up to its promise.
