Beautiful book of Frank Bowling's work: Penumbral Light.

Annie Dillard has died. I recently read her "Holy the Firm," a very interesting kind of long essay I learned of from Simon Critchley's "Mysticism," another excellent book.

Image is a quote by Annie Dillard from "The Writing Life": "Examine all tings intensely and relentlessly...Do not course over it, as if it were understood, but instead follow it down until you see it in the mystery of its own specificity and strength."

"I'd like to save rent stabilization by eliminating it."

Text from linked article: Smyth appealed to Gov. Kathy Hochul to change a law that she argued would help fix the broken rent stabilization system by allowing landlords to invest in apartment renovations and bring rent-stabilized apartments to the market.

The meaning of meaning in art came up recently in an interesting conversation. I have always attributed a lot of the conundrums that come from the question to a category error. I wrote a bit about it here: christopherquirk.medium.com/the-meaning-...

Show someone who absolutely rocks a hat (who isn’t Indiana Jones)

Anita O'Day in a fetching large, round black hat with white feathers. She's sporting matching white gloves and standing at a microphone on stage. Screen cap from the movie Jazz on Summer's Day, filmed at the Newport Jazz Festival in Rhode Island in 1958. It's a super film and O'Day turns Sweet Georgia Brown inside out and outside in again during her set.

Post a pic you took, no context, to bring some zen to the feed.

Wasn't it 9, if we're thinking of the same game? And at one point this was their high line. Yes it was fun to watch alright.

Spuds with 8 of their 9 players at or ahead the midfield line on defense in a game against Chelsea.

False. A YouGov poll from last week (over 3,834 respondents) found that Democrats want to abolish ICE by a 5-to-1 margin (76-15). Not reform. Abolish. today.yougov.com/politics/art...

partial text of poem, Adam's Curse, by WB Yeats, linked in post:
I said, ‘A line will take us hours maybe;
Yet if it does not seem a moment’s thought,
Our stitching and unstitching has been naught.
Better go down upon your marrow-bones
And scrub a kitchen pavement, or break stones
Like an old pauper, in all kinds of weather;
For to articulate sweet sounds together
Is to work harder than all these, and yet
Be thought an idler by the noisy set
Of bankers, schoolmasters, and clergymen
The martyrs call the world.’

Some drawings in pencil and colored pencil. They're all 9x12 in. on lovely Stonehenge Light paper. Drawing is discovery for me. Foraging in the infinite. #contemporaryart #contemporarypainting #abstractart

Current status: some perplexity. (Sean Caroll's "The Biggest Ideas in the Universe: Space, Time, and Motion." Great starter for nonscientists.)
