This is cool, and I'm not sure when this happened, but the default style on OpenStreetMap now shows urbanization starting at z level 7. It seems to be based on landuse=residential Here you can see the areas of urbanization around many midwestern cities in the US. 💜🌍 #OpenStreetMap

I honestly believe our most powerful position in a toxic time that feeds on cynicism, apathy,& despair is to genuinely care and act for a better world. Cynicism is our enemy. We should check it, incl. on the left. It’s not intellectually superior. It’s the virus they’re trying to infect us with. NO

Just called my senators and representative to urge them to take action on Trump's illegal impoundment of our tax dollars. I encourage everyone in the US to do the same! In case it helps, here's the loose script I typed up for myself
Hi, my name is Emily Dolson, and I'm a constitutent calling from East Lansing
to express my concern about the federal government's actions in pausing the distribution
of federal grants

As I hope Representative Barret is aware, the federal government has paused distributing
all grants.
We should all be able to agree that one of the core things that makes our country
great is the checks and balances that ensure everyone has a voice in our government.
Under that system, congress, not the president, decides how to spend our federal funds.
A unilateral action by the executive branch like this to impound our tax dollars
is almost certainly illegal and unconstitutional, and it's hurting people in our
district. I employ 6 people doing federally funded research and I'm worried I'm not
going to be able to keep paying them if this continues.
It's congress's responsibility to assert its rights here, and I urge Representative
Barret to make doing so a top priority.

While President Trump illegally pauses federal funding from Congress, the Senate must not be business as usual. We do not consent to this lawless power grab.
