My grandma had a cake plate where you pushed a button and Bing Crosby sang the white Happy Birthday song, and it was also SO SLOW. It left plenty of time for the young cousins to yell CHA CHA CHA between all the lines, which is another unfortunate aspect of the white version, in the Midwest at least

Our website agency has a lot of religious congregations in our client roster — spending time in both their world & the tech world often feels wildly disparate. My business partner and I think a lot about these folks’ views of AI, their awareness (or not) of wider related issues, etc. So fascinating!

Also: In the ’70s indie musicians without a dad in the industry had a shot of being heard outside of their town. Now the matter of who gets heard, and where, is tied up in all the same problems everything else is facing. (There are SO MANY musicians meeting the moment, they’re just not on the radio)

There are a lot of nice plugins/tools that we’ve used to build things like this — a lot depends on how you import/structure your lawyers in the backend (and a slew of other questions I’d have). No matter what, I’d recommend using a tool (built by experts & tested) rather than trying to roll your own

I spent much of my 20s witnessing the drawn out cancer, hospice, & death of my sister — and this all feels so parallel. Long-present societal problems increasingly metastasizing, but also the anticipatory grief & the contrasting what you used to think the future would be and what it will be now.

I once found that the page for some unpleasant (but not fatal) disease listed the prognosis as “up to ten years,” misrepresenting that the cited study stopped keeping track of patients after ten years, because everybody lived! Oof. (Don’t worry, I fixed it. 😊)
