Feeling anxious about the changes AI is bringing to work? Listen to Lenny Rachitsky’s interview with Molly Graham Feeling like you are fully AI pilled? Also! Listen to the pod. Truly the podcast I didn’t know I needed to hear overcast.fm/+AA6K1GyX618

Molly Graham is back for round two, and this one is even more powerful. Molly has spent more than 20 years helping organizations and the humans inside them navigate growth and change. She’s held leade...

Going to write a “I don’t want your garbage markup language” though it is less prevalent than bespoke query languages. Still come back to this banger all the time erikbern.com/2018/08/30/i...

I don't want to learn your garbage query language
This is a bit of a rant but I really don't like software that invents its own query language. There's a trillion different ORMs out there. Another trillion databases with their own query language. Ano...

Not my urge, subtweeting a vendor that just shipped their own markup language instead of using YAML and like jsonschema 🙄🙄🙄

Sidenote: this all illustrates an recurrent fascination of mine -- how often the blocked to good work is never having gotten to see "what good looks like" like if you've never seen a of datamart or an orchestrator, this feels reasonable. And DE has far fewer public examples than DS 12/

I never got a dopamine hit or flow state in coding. Maybe I never dug deep enough, could be a personal failing. But I do get a dopamine hit from a beautifully designed process, a boring and functional architecture. Basically I was AI native before it was cool

I mean that’s kinda funny. If you were using Fable 5.1 for this stuff I have a bridge to sell you

Eh I’d push back some on this. Very different fine tuning BERT vs. having a general classifier that Just Works (and has world knowledge). It’s not just that it’s approachable and has good defaults as the Prophet case was. But overall agree about the vibe of AI “discovering” things

Maybe it’s because I’m not a designer and if I was I’d hate it like text but .. isn’t a UI the one place where “average” (in this case: de facto universal) exactly what you want?

Christian Minich @christianminich.com · 21/09/2026
I really don’t get the hate for slop UI elements because they’re slop. Text? Deep hate, because it’s an expression of intent from the author (and because standardization is often a bug not a feature). But like isn’t the intent of a red callout box the same everywhere?

A ton of this usage is for tool calls / things that are managed from the harness (eg Codex) so I don’t think I agree that it shouldn’t seep in?
000
Christian Minich @christianminich.com · 07/09/2026
This is all true but I would add some of the major devs that OpenAI acquired are Rust devs, lots of tooling, including Pi, are made by folks with deep Rust experience. You’d think if there were benefits they would prioritize it / it would seep in

Right? Feels natural but no LLM or coding harness I’ve seen does this. Why?

Will LLMs make the Lindy effect permanent?
000
Christian Minich @christianminich.com · 06/09/2026
🎯 that’s exactly my point. I think agents will find higher level abstractions useful in similar ways that humans do
110
Christian Minich @christianminich.com · 06/09/2026
Why not? Would be faster etc. like if it just wrote Aasembly

Christian Minich @christianminich.com · 06/09/2026
I really want Cloud Agents to be easier to work with but the auth story is very very hard (having your own VM in the cloud is definitely a solid solution)

Christian Minich @christianminich.com · 06/09/2026
I think it’s interesting that agents write Python all day long in their cycles. Maybe that’s because of training data, maybe that’s because humans made them that way in the process or within the harness. It’s hard to say, but I think it’s an observation in tension with that prediction
100
Christian Minich @christianminich.com · 06/09/2026
I’ve seen people say that agents will make high level programming languages obsolete. Like why should Python et al exist if LLMs could just write Rust, C or even Assembly?

One of my life’s greatest joys is seeing my kids enjoy things I enjoyed as a kid. Recent example: checked out 2 beautiful adaptations from the Epic of Gilgamesh and read them to my 4 year old yesterday. He enjoyed it so much he asked to read it today 🥹

I tried using AI to compile raw materials — numbers, data, brief technical snippets and .. it sucked! Wrote it all myself. I think that method has promise but today was not the day

Short, to the point technical reports are both a flex and a sign of deep respect. “I would have written a shorter letter but I didn’t have the time” has never been more true.
