Tonight, some guy who brought his grandkids to a (non-math) event with about 25 kids ages 6-11 that can get pretty rowdy had all the kids working on a "puzzle" before the event got started. He told them he'd give anyone who solved it $10, but he'd never ever had to pay out before.

Today was Education Day at the local minor league hockey game, with over 4000 local school kids in attendance. In a very smart move, arena staff forwent the Kiss Cam. In an even smarter move, they had a 6-7 Cam.

I always get annoyed when people say ‘mathemagics’ as why something works in physics - during some sort of derivation. But these two (and credit to others as well) seem like real life mathemagicians.

I tried to tell my students that class was over, and one of them exclaimed that it couldn't be. Over half of them kept talking and working as I left the room. Then I got a text that my 5th grade son at school had seen a younger girl without a chair and gave her his seat and stood instead.
