This was my favourite book cover sketch from the O’Brien project. I really liked the drama of the shattered glass, and the shadow of the villain looming. RIP little cover sketch. #illustration #irishillustrator #irishartists #bookillustration #YAbooks

Cover sketch for ‘Heroes of Light and Shadow’ showing through a broken window with a boy scared on the ground and a shadow of a demon with an axe looming over him.

Want to know how I made my cover for O’Brien from start to finish? Full story over on Instagram!! #illustration #irishillustrator #irishartists #bookillustration #YAbooks

In early Spring of 2025 O’Brien contacted me to illustrate a cover for a new YA book. They also wanted a hand-drawn title. The brief was Irish mythology meets Percy Jackson. Adventure, drama and lots of action.

Idea 1. The initial idea was to draw an early scene from the book. A dramatic scene featuring an axe-whielding maniac.

Idea 2. The same scene from a different perspective. I wanted this to look more like an old-school classic book cover.

Chrissy Curtin ✨ @chrissycurtin.bsky.social · 14/05/2026

This is a book cover I made last year for O’Brien. I had lots of fun working on this, bringing the main character to life and drawing a very menacing serpent creature. Unfortunately it didn’t get used in the end but I’m still proud of the work I did on it! #irishartists #bookillustration #YAbooks

Illustrated cover called ‘Heroes of Light and Shadow by Conor Forrest’. Inside a dark cave a boy character in T-shirt and jeans is jumping over a rock with a sword held over his head. In the background is a menacing giant snake with lots of long sharp teeth.

Latest update: Hi everyone! So nothing has come in so far and bills are coming up this weekend. I could really use the help as most of the last 100 dollars I had vent to travel cost for interviews and gas. Nothing to announce yet but it's really important I'm able to pay those bills!! Please share this around so I can get some help hopefully by the end of this week
