Is it not ultra-weird that Mike Flanagan says “middle-aged men have been telling Carrie White’s story for far too long”? She was invented by a 26-year-old man, De Palma was about 35, The Rage: Carrie 2 is a Katt Shea movie, and the last adaptation was directed by Kimberly Pierce.

Mink Car was released at the end of the Restless Records era, in a generally cloudy period after TMBG left Elektra and before starting their own Idlewild imprint and partnering with various distribs. Anyhow, this era seems pretty fertile in retrospect but really felt hazy at the time for fans.

As for the remainder of what’s here, the peppy, silly experiments “Wicked Little Critta”, “I’ve Got a Fang”, “Mr Xcitement” (WHY Mr X and not superior M. Doughty collab “Your Mom’s Alright”?!) are fun-crazed manic arrangements of tossed-off songwriting and sort of fare better for slightness.

My Thomas Harris fan theory is that the Hannibal TV show manages to adapt everything important from the Lecter novel cycle, eliding the crucial aspects of Hannibal Rising into one s3 subplot and Lambs by mapping the arc of Lecter’s 2-book relationship with Starling onto Will Graham.

Always galling, but to be extra-super-pedantic, the shorts were packaged for TV in 1966 as The Road Runner Show, later combined into The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Hour (this show is what Danny is watching on an unplugged TV in The Shining), so in certain contexts there are “Road Runner episodes.”
