A historic night as the Grasmere Dialect Plays return to the village after almost one hundred years. Congratulations @suewilkinson.bsky.social and the Lake District Dialect Society. Eleanor Rawnsley would be proud.

Thanks Deborah, Kodak Gold has a look that reminds me a lot of 17th Century Dutch landscape painting, so whenever I get the chance, I give it a go.

I've been lucky enough to do quite a lot of interesting travelling this summer and I have a lot of photographs to think about and work through, including film to develop. This is the Fyris rive, near Uppsala, Sweden. This was made with my "emotional support camera" a 1960 Leica M2. #believeinfilm

Yes mine too. I've always been nervous about the own brand but I'll give it a go next time I need to buy some. That's quite a saving.

I can't make it to the Williamson on the 22nd unfortunately, but I hope it goes well. Will get there once it's open. Interesting about the ink. I think we have the same model of printer.

We couldn't afford one of those but we made various prototype steam turbines using Lyle's golden syrup tins.

When I taught the English module at the University of Liverpool's access course, v was one of the best things we studied. The students were all kinds of different, and while the language was divisive, the poem always won them over. It's one of my favourite things (Harrison in general in fact)

Apart from jamming it into cupboards hanging it on the wall is efficient

A.I. and corporate lingo are dragging language ynto drugged realmes of vague, airy, plastic nothingnesse: glitz and hyperbole wythout meaning. Language must have fur and clawes, make the floorboardes creake and leave wet dirtye footprintes. Wordes are rayne and fyre and stone. Wielde them. Save us.

Ugh, exactly that. I've had some amazing, horrifying fever dreams though, one of which involved wearing a suit of velcro in a dense crowd of people wearing woollen cardigans. What can it mean? ;-)

Nasty. I've had something very unpleasant for the last four days. I'd test, but that would mean getting out of bed and going outside to get a test kit. It seems I'm 104 now and a bit unsteady on my feet so that's not going to happen.

That sounds worth watching. Great story about your dad; like he still blames the film somehow. Our school buses (in E Yorkshire in the 1980s) included a couple of ancient Lodekkers, which we hated because they had a conductor who policed us.

Don't know anything about heic, but quite often with weird formats you can just change the suffix to something like PNG or jpg. Might be worth experimenting or looking up.

Digikam probably better at this as Rawtherapee intended for very large static photo libraries.

Sifting might be the best option as you will have loaded that old one up with ooh shiny! For photos I use Rawtherapee primarily, but Digikam is good and probably a bit more manageable. Permanently plugged in external drives always better than plug/unplug.

In the file mangler of the old laptop check the box to "show hidden files" before you copy/paste. You can find your uid (I wrote uuid earlier, but that was a typo. In terminal type "id". Check they are the same on both machines (works if they are not, but easier if they are).

Chris Routledge @chrisroutledge.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
Unless you think a complete fresh start is easier, if you are using the same user id (uuid: a number like 1001 that is given to you when you create a user) you can copy/overwrite entire contents of your /home folder (not just the files) and retain the settings for all of your applications.
