When I was building a deck on Arena I’ll be honest and say I hid all the UB sets.

Yeah, I’m just curious about where they’ll go from there if they introduce Tommy with Vision as his like father figure.

I feel like Billy’s relationship with the Kaplans is such a good part of his character (and their sorta adoption of Tommy) that I’d be kinda sad if they just made White Vision their dad and left all that behind.

It says so much about John as a writer that I can still clearly see the store, both inside and out, like I'd just been reading the book, even though I read it like three years ago. Really a master of setting a scene.

It's made me think about how voyeuristic we've all become, how easily stories of the worst experience of a person's life become essentially entertainment for us, even when we pretend they aren't. Also it's just a really incredibly well written book! I can still see the video store in my mind.

Do you also now feel a little sick when you see any kind of true crime? Even news reports about crimes make my skin feel a little crawly after finishing Devil House.

Everyone should read Devil House by John Darnielle and then talk to me about it.

My point, which I think I can argue pretty convincingly, is that block structure was worse overall for storytelling. Eldritch Moon, at the time, was not very well received, which is why the return in MID and VOW basically swept all of it under a rug.

context. sentiment. inferences. People seriously cannot do these things anymore. That’s why they angrily demand you spell out every joke, every reference, super duper promise you mean something only this one prescribed way. They cannot do it for themselves or tolerate the any ambiguity.

There’s so much recency bias. I don’t believe Gilmore Girls would be number 99 if it hadn’t been off the air for almost 20 years. There’s shows in the top 25-50 with one or two seasons that came out in the last couple years, which seems like anticipation more than genuine admiration.

Jace's underlying character arc has always been that he's a guy who can kill you with just a thought, but hates that about himself. He sees himself as a monster, and knows that the worst parts of himself are so much worse than the worst parts of anyone else. The Theorist *is* that part of him.

To understand the kind of person I am: There's a spider living in the corner above my shower and has been there through several bathroom cleanings. My only concern is that I simply don't believe there's enough for it to eat. How is it surviving? I hope it's okay.

I think genuinely it’s just that people have forgotten that the other people around them are real. I don’t think the person I hit was grifting so much as they were just not conscious of the idea that I was a real person driving a car behind them.

I was on the interstate and someone in front of me came to a sudden and inexplicable stop despite there being no traffic, right as I was changing lanes. Turns out insurance doesn’t care if the person you rear-ended literally said “I don’t know why I hit my brakes.”
