I think, I worry, I love nature. I worked as a physicist long ago, now I write code for a living. I write fiction, or aspire to.

It was absolutely original and marvelous. Original music, and a story of strange compassion for the ghosts who cannot let go.

A proud moment: I am here for the first performance of My Friend Grim, a musical written and composed by my child Leo. They have an amazing talent and I am beyond impressed they brought this all the way from inspiration to reality.

Good morning BlueSky. I've been busy and tired as it feels that so much is crumbling. Here is a bit of summer for you,and a huge hollow log that children play inside.
A fallen sequoia, long ago hooked out by fire, that fell and broke across a tiny creek. The hollow tree makes a tunnel to play in

Great blue herons perched high in a winter tree. They look something like the chrysalises of some enormous caterpillars that metamorphose into pterodactyls...

Ancient rocks from a summer long ago. These were part of an archipelago before North America was a thing, and now they crown a mountain range. They're granite, but so old that they crumble to a fine gravel at a touch.

Mokey always liked the snow. The world transformed overnight and she rolls with it, delighted and never surprised, she accepts the world as it is in this moment.

Be of good cheer. We are far from the first people to face dark and uncertain times. Our ancestors got past them, and so can we. That which is good and beautiful can endure.

The same tree now weighed down under heavy snow. The bent branches are quite beautiful but sometimes they break off entirely. Thus nature prunes, in its way.

Snow last night turned the world to white beauty that will last just a few hours. No matter how briefly it lasts this always brings me joy.

Our first light dusting of snow this winter! It was too warm and then too dry, we hadn't got any so far. Some years we get none at all. I'm glad of it, snow always makes me happy.

It's a lovely cold rainy day at last. It's been dry for too long, the ground wants to be soaked this time of year. I have always loved the rain.

Here is a lake nearby me, surrounded by brown brush and grass this time of year. If every mirror is a portal then it holds another sky... the great herons know the truth of it.

A tiny creek winds among the frost. A little boy nearby, I'm told, knows every water insect, frog and crayfish living there. There was a time when I spent days and hours peering into other streams, but I never knew every single creature.

I walked today through hidden woods with a man so gentle that his spirit shone clean through his face. We talked through the terrors of our time, but he and his wife are such old spirits that the undercurrent of all they do is quiet joy.

Venus has all the properties normally assigned to hell: it's surface is hot enough to melt lead, it's atmosphere full of sulphuric acid, and the air pressure would crush you flat. Is there a beauty to it? Possibly, but not one a human could survive seeing...

Here's a mossy tree from a few springs ago. It grows in one of those old growth patches the loggers missed. I often take comfort in the thought that those old patches are filled with living things older than the language I speak, let alone whatever argument we're having in it.

There are spirits just out of sight in the mist. As a child they were huge and obvious but now I just barely get a glimmer of them -- they've grown more wary, or my senses have dulled. But even now I know if I went to the right tree on the wrong night I'd hear whispers from some evil icy shade.

The sequoia had learned the Miwok language, but had last spoken with Liwanu in the year now called 1630. Liwanu had been the last one who had anything interesting to say. The recent infestation of chattering humans, some other tribe apparently, held little interest. #hpb53

Good morning BlueSky. It's winter now, so here a reflection of another winter, a mud puddle or a mirror, depending on if it's leaking into your boots. Some of the best walks start out waist deep in cold water though, so don't always go around.
