Weekend reading arrived just in time

Got 450 applicants in 3 weeks for two roles I had advertised. Things are tight out there folks. Two years ago we’d be lucky to get a quarter of that.

Read about some of the work @ianfpollock.bsky.social accomplished during our time as colleagues at Paper Giant. Great to have a scholarly take on the boiler room of consulting outputs.

Attending the Vic Premier's Design Awards last night, and as always was blown away by the quality of the work we produce here. Highlight was VolDrive, a kinetic energy harvester powering internet of things devices (and saving tonnes of batteries): premiersdesignawards.vic.gov.au/entries/2024...

I’ve had a bit of time to tinker with coding again recently (I was a webdev circa 2004), and my most common LLM chat is like: “hey, so tell me what’s happened with RSS in the last 10 years!” and I am absolutely giddy with delight around how useful these things are.

Having seen appalling catalogue of harms against teens outlined in huge cases against Meta for our #4Corners story, Disconnected (including heartbreaking story of Colorado teen, Anna Schott) not surprised Australia proposing tough Digital Duty of Care law #socialmedia amp.abc.net.au/article/1045...

I’m late to this platform, but it already feels nicer (less algorithm’d) than the other places. Quite nice having a blank slate social graph too. Hello 👋
