Happy to share a new paper in Environmental Politics w/ @jolanda-jetten.bsky.social & Sam Pearson. Across 105 countries (N = 101,956), people in fossil fuel reliant nations were less likely to see climate change as a government priority, more supportive of fossil fuel use, and less so of renewables.

New paper out in Global Environmental Change. Across 106 countries, where institutions are stronger, people hold businesses more responsible for cutting emissions. They look to government where institutions are very weak or strong, and to individuals where these are moderate. doi.org/10.1016/j.gl...

Happy to share our new paper in Ecological Economics with @jolanda-jetten.bsky.social & @kellykirkland.bsky.social! People in more unequal countries are more likely to view individuals rather than governments as responsible for climate change mitigation. (1/3) www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

I’m glad to share our new paper on fossil fuel reliance and climate change mitigation. Higher perceived reliance is associated with lower support for systemic climate policies. (1/4) @jolanda-jetten.bsky.social www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Denying responsibility, shifting blame to individuals, and promoting weak, nontransformative solutions—just some of the tactics fossil fuel companies use to confuse the public and delay climate action.

Crisis framing activates fatalism (a sense the world is beyond repair), which makes people apathetic. A far better strategy for inspiring action is to show that change is not only desirable but also possible www.nytimes.com/2024/11/21/opinion/public-health-crisis-america.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share

The convicted felon Donald Trump plans to declare a "national energy emergency," but there's no emergency. The US produces more oil and fossil gas than any other country. There is, however, a climate emergency.
A line graph depicting global oil production measured in terawatt-hours (TWh) from 1900 to 2023, highlighting production trends for various countries, including the United States, Russia, and Saudi Arabia. The graph shows That the US produces by far more oil than any other country.

New paper in BJSP! We (me, JanetSwim & JohnFraser) explore how social support can promote climate action. We find that those receiving more social support have more hope about taking action, and this action hope predicts more intended and self-reported behavior. Read here: shorturl.at/HiZHt

The latest data released by the Australian government shows that while the last third of the previous conservative leadership saw a decline in fossil fuel exports, the Labor party has overseen a steady resurgence - and is forecasted to continue that resurgence www.industry.gov.au/publications...
