What other common-sense checks should be put back in place to prevent the abuse of power and restore the power to the people?

If they proceed using the new Republican law that makes it harder for the Milwaukee Common Council to pass police-related policy, then the state of Wisconsin will have to take a closer look at what else the Milwaukee police department is wasting money on.

Tonight, there is reporting that the City of Milwaukee and the Police Chief are ignoring the public and are planning to renew the Flock contract.

Chris Larson @chrisjlarson.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
Yesterday, over 200 people testified over 4 hours to encourage the City of Milwaukee to reject Flock. They spoke out against mass surveillance without accountability.

Because people are contacting their elected leaders and demanding responsible laws, we will have the votes to scale back these monstrosities and focus on the things people actually need: affordable healthcare, affordable childcare, and a quality public education for every child in the state.

The tone is changing in the Capitol around hyper-scale data centers. We just have to keep pushing for the change we deserve until the people are heard.

I just feel it is important to ask this now, before it happens: When this giant tech bubble bursts, do you think taxpayers should bail them out?

Chris Larson @chrisjlarson.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
Stock buybacks are market manipulation. They should be illegal again. But worse, than this change from 1982, it shouldn’t be an option for large investors to buy politicians that continue to allow for the public to continue to be ignored.

Chris Larson @chrisjlarson.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
For the rest of us, it means that despite the massive concerns, Big Tech is going to continue to be shielded from accountability and public oversight.

Nvidia just issued the largest stock buyback in history. It’s a great way for them to recirculate profits, drive up their share price, and make more money for their wealthy shareholders and investors.

But the more we connect directly as human beings, the better luck I think we give ourselves in whatever they try to divide us with next.

As the violence from our federal government increases and gets closer to home, I'm getting the sense that more folks are realizing things are not normal. There is no precedent for where we are. There is also no precedent for what happens next.

Are we pulling the ladder behind us? Or are we holding it steady for the next generation? Every child deserves a quality public education so they are ready to lead us out of the hellscape we are currently in.

The more people who stand up against hyper-scale data centers, the easier it is for politicians to stand up for Wisconsin instead of Big Tech. Where do you stand on the hyper-scale hand out for data centers?

Chris Larson @chrisjlarson.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
The big money in politics is corrupting what happens in our state capitol. Luckily, the power of the people is still stronger.

Chris Larson @chrisjlarson.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
This tax break is a big reason why Big Tech is trying to force data centers on our state, despite 76% of voters rejecting them.

Chris Larson @chrisjlarson.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
More and more folks are joining the call to end the hyper-scale handout for data centers. The sales tax exemption that was authored and championed by Republicans + Tony Evers is projected to cost Wisconsinites over $2 billion in lost revenue.

What do you want to see Wisconsin focus on after 16 years of Republican gerrymandered control?
000
Chris Larson @chrisjlarson.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
-Public utilities being public utilities and not drivers of corruption, greed, pollution, climate change denial, and hyper-scale data center promotion. -Pause any new data centers moving forward in Wisconsin until protections are put in place

With everything getting more expensive due to Republicans prioritizing war and corruption over serving the people, it’s a good time to push for what’s truly needed in Wisconsin and beyond: -Ending the $2 billion hyperscale handout for data centers

Afterwards, we had iced tea at my childhood home and my mom got to ask her future state rep some hard-hitting questions about whether he wanted walnut bread, which grocery store he goes to, and why it is so expensive. It is quite possibly the longest I’ve ever heard mom talk to anyone about policy.

Earlier this month, I ran a few miles with Ben Brist around my old stomping grounds in Greenfield. Ben is an army veteran running to represent the 61st assembly district and is picking up momentum to defeat right-wing extremist, Bob Donovan.

The role of a functional government is to collectively solve the biggest problems we cannot otherwise on our own. This is why we fund public schools, protect our water, and push for everyone to get uninhibited access to health care.

Every day it becomes clearer that Trump, Republicans, and the immoral billionaires that fuel their campaigns believe that everyone is just as corrupt and morally bankrupt as they are.

Public money means there must be public accountability. Wisconsin, we can finally make it happen and ensure every child gets a the quality public education they deserve.

Luckily, if we have a governor and a majority of lawmakers committed to public accountability, we can require common sense oversight many citizens incorrectly assume are already in place.

This next legislative 2-year session may be the first chance to put guardrails on a system that has dodged accountability since it was founded in the late 1980s as the Milwaukee version of the southern segregation academies.

Instead, the program has expanded and continues to receive priority funding directly from the state without ever having to go to referendum. They receive +90% reimbursement for special education while public schools get less than 40%.

Public money should come with public accountability. Unfortunately, for 37 years, Wisconsin’s private voucher experiment has taken over a billion in public money but has had limited public oversight.

Hyper-scale data centers shouldn't be getting any more tax breaks to be built in Wisconsin. We estimated to be forgoing $1.5 billion for the construction phase of 4 data centers and an ongoing annual cost of $350 million. We should end it put the money into improving our public schools.
