Spring definitely approaches, in one day a friend had the first paralysis tick of the season, and a channel billed cuckoo went flapping and sqawking overhead.

Fucking channel 7 news showing video of Lily Hooper's family celebrating when they were mistakenly told she was alive. Presumably they went on to cover them being told the truth. I cut it off before that. What is wrong with these ghouls ffs

Here's a perfectly normal lift button panel, at the Coal Loader in Waverton, Sydney. They were very impressive chickens, I have to say
A lift button panel, labelled:
1. Tunnels and Lower Lawns
2. The Chickens
3. The Platform
No button 4
5. Main Entry / Toilets / Cafe

It's the middle of winter in Sydney, and I have just terminated a cockroach big enough to saddle in the kitchen, and then found this guy in the bedroom (it was gently placed in foliage outside). What the hell is going on? Rhetorical of course, we all know what this is...

Genuinely Orwellian. Neither UNESCO nor @albomp.bsky.social's & Murray Watt's @australianlabor.bsky.social government should be taken seriously when they attempt to deceive us with utter nonsense that's grossly inconsistent with what science & our own eyes tell us. www.abc.net.au/news/2026-07...

You're right of course. BA came out of a very different time. I didn't take much in, seeing him as a kid in the late 60s, just a sense that he was very odd. Only later did I see how very out of kilter he was with most of us

I have already heard Hungary's new government referred to as The New Management. I understand it wasn't a @cstross.bsky.social reference but it could be.

Quick reminder that as this case is before the courts, anything you post could be considered as being in contempt or prejudicial. Follow in the PM’s example here and think very carefully when posting about this. When in doubt, say nothing. Post nothing. For the sake of justice and due process.

What the hell was that about? Albanese was on for less than 3 minutes, no new information, some vague motherhood guff, and I've seen more animation from a rock

Always weird how those who get well paid for contributing little to society except their opinions, think others like childcare workers should not get a decent wage.

SF promises strange new worlds. In @clarkeaward.bsky.social winner The Animals in that Country, the blurb is a classic 3-parter: protagonist, premise, perturb. 1) a foul-mouthed drunken granny; 2) who suddenly understand animals; 3) and hits the road with a bossy dingo to find her lost g-daughter.
Toy animals and Laura Jean McKay's The Animals in that CountryBlurb: Out on the road, no one speaks, everything talks. Hard-drinking, foul-mouthed grandma Jean has never been good at getting on with other humans, apart from her granddaughter, Kimberly. Instead, she surrounds herself with animals, working as a guide in an outback wildlife park. Then, a strange pandemic begins sweeping the country, its chief symptom that its victims begin to understand the language of animals. Many infected people lose their minds, including Jean’s son, Lee. When he takes off with Kimberly, Jean follows, with Sue the dingo riding shotgun. As they travel, they discover a stark, strange world in which the animal apocalypse has only further isolated people from other species.

So this probably is who was grunting and bellowing outside my window last night. He's a very big boy.

My bat plant is definitely enjoying the hot, humid Sydney summer. Me, not as much

The tater harvest is in. About 8 kg of Dutch Creams plus another 1kg that I bandicooted earlier. I put 1 kg of seed potatos in, so I'm pretty happy with that.

The national energy marketer seems alarmed by the (wonderful, world-leading!) fact that *4 million* Australian homes and businesses have rooftop solar. It’s time for the government to help all those homes and businesses afford the batteries they need to store their cheap, clean energy.
