Although rare in the south of the uk I was delighted to find chrysomphalina grossula, green navel, for the second time this year in Bernwood forest. Both times on old ,mossy stumps, probably spruce. #fungifriends #mycology #naturephotography

Supposed to be quite common, but the orange peel fungus, aleuria aurantia has eluded me until today. Oxford park #fungifriends #mycology #mushrooms

Hi Jojo, you seem like a kindred spirit! I have found these beauties a few times around Oxford but you certainly found a gorgeous example. You might like this mini Volvariella hypopithys or pusilla I found this year on grass, only 2/3cm cap!

I found some daisy earth stars last week, geastrum floriforme. It took ages for me to distinguish between them and the barometers, but your picture perfectly shows the rip in the spore sac as opposed to the raised hole in the daisies🧐

Chris Grimbly @chrishroom.bsky.social · 08/12/2025
I’m now convinced it is floriforme due to the raised hole more evident in one of 5 new ones found today

Chuffed to find this small, unusual earth star in Oxford park. Either geastrum floriforme, daisy earth star, or astraeus hygrometricus ,barometer earth star. Due to differing thickness in the flesh, the rays fold over to protect the spore sac as it dries. #fungifriends #mycology

Blusher then, it should bruise pink where damaged

Chris Grimbly @chrishroom.bsky.social · 29/09/2025
Lovely! I think that may be a blusher, the flecks on the top aren’t white enough for pantherina. Panthers have a gutter around the top of the volva. Does the annulus ( ring) have striations ?

I found 3 more there ,one of which was coming from the growing point of pickerel weed, pontederia cordata, I presume the rest were on decaying stems of the same

Thank you Piotr, yes indeed it is. Someone did the microscope work and it is being sent for sequencing. There aren’t many uk records though probably pseudo rare!

There are over 6000 species of parasitic wasp in the uk, very little is known about many of them, which is strangely pleasing to me! This is one of them from my Oxford garden , any help iding much appreciated #entomology #macro #parasiticwasps #uknature #inverts
