Physicist & chemist Marie Curie was the: + First woman to win a Nobel Prize + First person & only woman to win twice + Only person to ever win a Nobel Prize in 2 different sciences: Physics (1903) & Chemistry (1911) Marie Skłodowska Curie died #OTD in 1934. #WomenInSTEM
A striking black-and-white studio portrait of Marie Curie (1867–1934), the legendary Polish-French physicist and chemist who revolutionized modern science by discovering radioactivity, polonium, and radium. As the only person to win Nobel Prizes in two different scientific fields, her profound historical significance is reflected in her serious, deeply introspective expression. Photographed from the chest up, she looks directly at the camera with an intense, analytical gaze. Her graying hair is styled in a soft updo, framing a face etched with a look of quiet resolve and intellectual focus. She wears a dark, textured jacket over a shirt adorned with a distinctive geometric, black-and-white checkered pattern at the neckline. The portrait utilizes a stark, dark, textured background that blends into her clothing, creating a high-contrast composition that draws complete focus to her face. The overall mood is solemn, dignified, and powerful, capturing the essence of a brilliant academic pioneer who dedicated her life to scientific discovery.

“I find many adults are put off when young children pose scientific questions. Why is the Moon round? the children ask. Why is grass green? What is a dream? How deep can you dig a hole? When is the world's birthday? Why do we have toes?

Too many teachers and parents answer with irritation or ridicule, or quickly move on to something else: 'What did you expect the Moon to be, square?' Children soon recognize that somehow this kind of question annoys the grown-ups. A few more experiences like it, and another child has been lost to science. Why adults should pretend to omniscience before 6-year-olds, I can't for the life of me understand. What's wrong with admitting that we don't know something? Is our self-esteem so fragile?”

No farmer in the US (nor anywhere) should have to worry about losing their livelihood due to money, period. We'd literally starve without them, and the fact that many have to cut corners that lower food quality just to survive is a travesty. 6 figures for farmers, teachers, doctors, firefighters ✅️

Molecular biologist Carolyn Greider was born #OTD in 1961. She shared the 2009 #Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for the discovery of the enzyme telomerase & how chromosomes are protected by telomeres. This has 𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘶𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘭 implications for the fields of #aging and #cancer research. #WomenInSTEM
A vibrant color studio portrait of Carolyn Widney Greider, the American molecular biologist and Nobel laureate who discovered the enzyme telomerase and shared the 2009 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for revealing how chromosomes are protected from shortening during cell division. In this warm, professional head-and-shoulders photograph, she faces the camera directly with a bright, genuine smile that reveals her teeth and lights up her eyes, conveying warmth, intelligence, and quiet confidence. Her shoulder-length, wavy blonde hair frames her face softly. She wears a bright turquoise ribbed knit cardigan with a draped collar over a black top, accented by small blue stud earrings. The background is a soft, out-of-focus gradient of blues and greens that keeps the focus entirely on her approachable presence. The overall composition is clean and intimate. The mood is one of joyful accomplishment and scientific dedication, powerfully symbolizing Greider’s groundbreaking contributions to molecular biology, our understanding of aging, cancer, and cellular immortality, and her role as a trailblazing woman in STEM.

Vintage black-and-white studio portrait of American biochemist Florence Barbara Seibert (1897–1991), shown from the shoulders up. The young woman has short, dark, wavy 1920s-style hair parted on the side, wears round wire-rimmed eyeglasses, and offers a gentle smile toward the camera. She is dressed in a light-colored blouse with a ruffled collar. A studio imprint reading “A. F. R. S. Chicago” appears in the lower right corner.

A color photograph of American chemist and inventor Helen Murray Free in her later years, taken at a formal awards ceremony. She is seated on a black chair in a banquet-style room with warm lighting and blurred background attendees. Helen, an older woman with short light-brown or graying hair, wears glasses and smiles gently with a warm, contented expression as she looks slightly off to the side. She is dressed in a elegant black blazer over a sparkly black top, accessorized with a long beaded necklace, and proudly wears a red-white-blue patriotic ribbon with the National Medal of Technology and Innovation medal. The image captures her poised and dignified presence, reflecting her lifelong achievements in developing life-changing diagnostic tests for diabetes and other conditions.

New awareness campaign
A digital poster in the style of a World War II propaganda piece. Isolaed on a yellow background, a normal, squarish, 20-something guy with glasses is sitting working on a laptop. A ghostly figure of Hitler has his arm around the guy and is grinning and shaking a fist triumphantly looking at the laptop screen. On the lid of the laptop where an apple might otherwise be is an openAI logo, bright green, and dripping green ooze down the lid. Text on the poster, in combinations of sans-serif type and brush script reads:
Using Generative AI?
You’re prompting with Hitler!
GenAI is a Fascist Project!
Try using your brain instead
Don’t surrender your creativity to the tech billionaire’s control

strange and eerie things
A drawing of a balding man in a tanktop with a long skullet and bushy mustache over his mouth saying
"dang season o' strange an eerie things, I tell you- I came home one day an'd heared this awful gruntin' sound comin from in my bedroom. I'm us'd t' possums tryin' get in in there, so I go take a look, what'd i see?
There's a dang wolfman tryin' to do romance to my mattress it looks like.
I don't just mean erotic-like, I mean like wolfman'd got hisself a bouquet an' a ring for it.
But he were also doin the other stuff too. The no pants stuff.
Can't say what drew the two to that union, maybe it's on account of my mattress still got the stink of a possum crawled in there 'n died on last april.
Guess I can't really know a wolfman's heart, one of natures grand mysteries is like."
