My article on the importance of giving credit to the creatives. I really hope that the current trend of fading away the creators from gaming products can be reversed: www.trenchcrusade.com/trench-wire/...

Inside the Trenches - Trench Crusade

In this Trench Wire article, Tuomas Pirinen writes bout the importance of giving creators proper credit for their work.

My painting really slowed down over the past couple of months. Not because it was too hot (I think it got over 30°C once or twice where I live) but my muse has been hard to find. Anyway, here's a snazzy Corvus Cabal that I might run as Horned Hunters when Mordheim starts at the local club again.

Three 28mm toy soldiers. They all have masks made of giant bird skulls. In the background is a ruined building on a hill.

Two of these have a weapon in each hand, while the centre figure holds a severed head aloft to inspect it.

Here's the partially eclipsed sun setting behind some hills about fifteen minutes after totality.

A crescent sun in a red sky. Silhouetted hills are black. Water is visible in the mid ground with some white buildings in the foreground.

I was browsing in a hobby shop today. An older teenage lad asked the assistant for help as he's was just starting Trench Crusade. "What colours should I use?" To his credit, the assistant said something like "Whatever you like" but in a more helpful way.

I know it's an ogre, but it'll get lost on the 40mm base won't it? I'm sticking with the 25mm base it was made for.

An ogre toy soldier on a 25mm square base, a 40mm square base in the foreground. They stand on a paint stained green cutting mat.

Here's an oddity from my youth. A Lord of the Rings inspired 8 bit computer / board game mashup for the Philips G7000 console (I think it was called the Odyssey 2 in North America).

Went for a wander with my son in Northumberland today. Ancient hill forts and rock art.

Lichen covered rock with carved concentric circles.

A back sign with grey writing: "this cup and ring marked rock is protected as a monument of national importance under the ancient monuments acts 2913-53"

I spent yesterday at Clubhouse in Newcastle playing a narrative Mordheim campaign. My Dark Elves won 2 out of 3 games, but lost their leader in game 1. A great day.

Two dark elves on a bridge preparing to defend against a horde of orcs.

A witch hunter attempts to prevent the sacrifice of an innocent to the dark gods.

3 dark elves looking at ruined medieval houses.

Played Mordheim tonight. I say played: I moved my warband once, fired off one arrow (missed) then one of my opponents decided to let loose a volley of blunderbusses that forced a route test (failed). Remind me : why is this fun?

I used the prompt to paint my first synth wave style model. I'm not entering but I enjoyed trying out something new.

A caped figure holds one hand aloft at eye height. Their other hand is in a fist at hip height. Greens and pinks dominate.

This #oldhammer troll has been sitting on my painting pile for nearly two years. Finally just "got him done" and didn't worry about doing the best that I could. Casualty is a Ragnarok miniature available from Gripping Beast, background from @handiworkgames.bsky.social #jhbackdrops

28mm scale fantasy troll, holding a large stone headed hammer looms over a prone Viking. The background is rolling misty hills with a rooftop visible over the crest of the first hill.

This resonated with me. The only playing that I'm doing right now is a Mordheim campaign. I was invested in my warband because I'd developed a backstory for them which included a couple of areas in the city which made sense for them to get a foothold.

My Ostermark mercenary warband, The Gilded Swine, flexed their muscles at an all day event in Newcastle the weekend. Here they are about to get minced by an undead warband playing the Street Fight scenario. Only one henchman failed to survive the post game so no harm done.

Lots of toy soldiers. One warband is grey and dark red, the other is dressed in yellow and magenta. They are battling in a crowded bottle neck caused by two staircases.

Sometimes you just need to launch speed paint onto some metal to get the ball rolling again. #nerdlings #jhbackdrops

Two 28mm 'cultist' toy soldiers. They hold large axes, are dressed in black and red robes with metal masks over their head. The scene is in the desert with a ruined Egyptian statue in the midground and hills in the background.
