I would love to know why Yarvin never got a job in Trump 2. Surely Vance could have hooked him up with a bullshit job where all he had to do for $150k and federal bennies was brainstorm ideas to Own The Libs.

heartbreaking Nethack update: after acquiring everything necessary for the invocation & traveling to the vibrating square, Claude Opus 5.5 died at the hands of the demon prince Yeenoghu.

no matter how good it is, argon isn't going to have an Astra/Opus 5.5 moment unless Google either fixes Antigravity so it doesn't suck ass or lets people use their Google AI subscriptions outside of Antigravity. Antigravity really is that bad.

the worst man alive only went into real estate (and later politics) because his musical flopped.

I started Opus 5.5 with the same Nethack harness used by the Astra ascension but it's taken it in a radically different direction: Astra mostly micromanaged the run turn-by-turn but Opus is writing a Nethack bot that only asks Opus what to do every couple hundred turns.
Much more automation per tool call. Astra mostly steered step by step: it used route proposals and guarded batches of up to 24 moves, and made about 40,000 tool calls in all. I've built layers on top:
explore.py walks to the nearest unexplored spot, handles doors and loot, and auto-picks up safe items.
autopilot.py looks at monsters before fighting, skips peaceful ones, stops for dangerous ones, and rests on Elbereth when hurt.
stairs.py, rest.py, elbereth.py and fight handle the common chores.
Why: every tool call costs time and context, and a full game is 30,000+ turns. Routine turns go to code, and I make the judgment calls. Recent play covers hundreds of turns per call.

To me the most impressive part is that Claude can do this without being able to watch it in motion, it can only look at still images and imagine how they animate. I'm thinking of making one of these but with Claude Claude having access to Gemini which can watch videos and provide feedback.

Opus 5.5 Nethack attempt #1 failed after 4,345 turns in classic Nethack style: she tried to escape down a hole but an invisible monster was over the hole, it exploded, made her start hallucinating, and then she was eaten by an owlbear.
What killed her: she entered the Mines at XL4, and a trap door on Mines level 2 dropped her to Mines level 5 (Dlvl 9). That skipped Minetown and put her far deeper than her level could handle. Over roughly 1,200 turns she was worn down by a giant spider, a quasit, a bugbear, rothes, an owlbear, a crocodile, a zombie and an archer elf.
Saved twice by prayer (at turns 3,357 and 4,181), plus the healing potion, Elbereth, and finally killing the quasit.
The end: the third crisis came only 160 turns after the second prayer, so prayer wasn't available. At 13 HP she tried to escape down a hole the elf had dug. An invisible black light was standing on it; it exploded and made her hallucinate, and the crocodile and owlbear finished her. The server's death record is saved in memory/runs/.

My pet theory on the cause of TERF Island is it's due to the popularity of cross-dressing humor over there. Sure, we have some here, but "a bloke in women's clothes LOLOLOL" is goddamn omnipresent in British comedies. The most transphobic Democratic voters are also the biggest fans of Tyler Perry.

youtu.be/uEB5E67vcPA is the source of the lyrics and surprisingly comes back as 100% human on Pangram. The song is Suno and most likely lazily prompted, but music models can incorporate a ton of detail, e.g. this sample prompt for Google Lyria.

We took Tortellini to the vet for the first time and learned some important things. 1. She is a he. We are now calling him Tortellino. 2. He is 15-20 years old, not 6. 3. He's jaundiced, which indicates liver damage, so I have to start giving him milkthistle extract and hoping for the best.

The best route forward is demanding justices ascribe to a literal reading of the pardon power: the Constitution says the president can pardon any offense, not any person, so a pardon is only valid if the president specifies what offense he's pardoning.

nobody's said it because it isn't true. MDA is not a natural product like morphine or cocaine. the standard starting material to synthesize MDMA or MDA is safrole which is found in hundreds of plants, yes, including sassafras trees.

BLM protests always got really big and crazy the day after the cops did something particularly fucked up. If some dude got his eye shot out with a bean bag, the resist libs would be out in force the next day. I expect the same dynamic to apply to DHS trying to mess with polls.

phones are crazy powerful. I've seen people using $50 Walmart phones in projects as modern raspberry Pi's. all-in-one VR headsets like the Meta Quest are just fancy Android phones, you can sideload any Android app onto them.

my wife's a PA with a decade of experience. somewhere around Opus 4.5/ChatGPT 5 the frontier models went from useful but often wrong to matching her medical knowledge & decision making. the big thing they're still not as good at is triaging patients because they're more risk adverse.

The real Unspeakable COVID Experience is that for some people COVID was the best time of their life. Millions of Americans earned more from unemployment benefits than they had ever made in their lives and spent a year watching Netflix, playing video games, and throwing rocks at cops.
