Suburban sprawl developer thinks suburban sprawl is the only way to develop, more at 11. His argument also falls short if you think about it for more than a minute
Shane Wenzel via LinkedIn:

Edmonton wants half of its new homes built inside existing neighbourhoods.

We have seen this in Calgary. Imagine Calgary, Plan It Calgary, the Calgary Plan, each one drew a line where growth was supposed to go.

Twelve years after Edmonton's first infill roadmap, the answer is 22 more actions.

None of it puts a roof over anyone. An issued permit does. Buyers decided where they want to live, and every plan that argues with them adds to the price.

Last time I went to visit my parents in Victoria, my wife and I went to an Evensong service at Christ Church and I was pretty happy to see that the church was trying to redevelop the land surrounding it. My excitement faded when I saw how long the Diocese had been in the process of development hell

Ah, good. I was worried that governments in Canada were going to start addressing supply side issues rather than subsidize demand. www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/artic...
Clipping from the Globe and Mail story on the Ontario budget:

Housing

New honmeowners will be getting a bigger tax break thanks to combined relief from the provincial and federal governments. The province says it is temporarily expanding its HST rebate on new homes to all buyers to a maximum rebate of $130,000 for homes up to $1-million. Homes worth up to $1.5-million would also be eligible for a rebate, but it would be capped at $130,000, with smaller tax breaks for homes worth up to $185-million.

He's doing a victory lap
VoiceOfFranky, the Bluesky account of EKOS Polling's Frank Graves, liking a month-and-a-half old post saying "Frank Graves vindication"

EKOS polling is often accused of having a bias in favour of the Liberal Party of Canada but in recent years has caught trends faster than other pollsters. They were the first to pick up on the LPC rebound after Trudeau stepped down, and were the first to recognize the polling bump in recent months that shot the Liberals up into significant majority territory.

I was wondering who his target audience *in* Canada would be for this. It turns out it's JJ
J.J. McCullough on Twitter: I think Jamil Jivani was obviously in the right and it was gratuitous for Pierre to criticize him. Trump's tariffs are clearly wrong, but hysterical anti-Americanism, egged on by Carney, is a problem in Canada too, and the Conservatives shouldn't be afraid to stand against it

Gnarly two-car collision at Royal Ave and 8 St this past Sunday. RRFBs here would be a great start @natefor8.bsky.social but a full revamp of this intersection would be better. Pedestrian crossing here is dangerous and I've seen too many close calls from cars speeding down the hill.

This from Victoria Police is how it should be put. Yes, it's a shared responsibility, BUT between a pedestrian and a car, only one of those has the capability to harm or kill the other
Victoria Police Department:

VicPD is urging the community to take extra care on our roads.

Since January 1, our officers have responded to a cyclist or pedestrian being struck every single day.

To date, this includes 8 pedestrians, 7 cyclists, and 1 person on a scooter.

These are not statistics. These are people - your sister, mother, brother, aunts, kids, colleagues, uncles - all walking to work, cycling to school, crossing the street, or simply moving through our community. Each collision carries the potential for life-threatening injury or loss.

Road safety is a shared responsibility. Drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians all a have a role to play, but those operating vehicles carry a heightened duty of care. A moment of distraction, speed, or impatience can have irreversible consequences.

We are asking the public to slow down, stay alert, and make deliberate, cautious choices behind the wheel. Watch for cyclists. Yield to pedestrians. Put phones away. Take the extra second.

Together, we can prevent these collisions.

Together, we can keep people safe.

I'm so confused by Kent Hehr's housing policy. On one hand, repeal rezoning (wtf Kent) on the other hand he wants to... Implement rezoning
A screenshot from Kent Hehr's campaign site with his housing policy listed. In it, he states he wants to repeal rezoning, despite the city's zoning being overly complex as is. He instead wants to introduce "neighbourhood zones" which reads like a watered down version of blanket rezoning

I am reading it but I just can't square the circle here. I cannot imagine that make work "community-informed" housing plans would be any better than rezoning. R-CG barely passed despite days long hearings that were not representative of the communities that make up Calgary.
