John Wayne only ever starred in one film with an exploding helicopter, and naturally enough The Duke swaggers away from the carnage. From THE GREEN BERETS (1968)

Watched NIGHT OF THE BIG HEAT (1967) tepid alien invasion thriller. The low budget means action is largely confined to a pub where the cast greet ET's arrival by knocking back lager and whiskey. It's pretty boring, but Jane Merrow raises the temperature by rubbing ice cubes over herself. Awooga!

Watched FOR THE LOVE OF BENJI (1977) 'Benji' is the best dog actor I've ever seen. The canine Marlon Brando. And given that Benji can only bark, he's about as easy to understand as the great method mumbler himself.

Fun fact: Colonel Sanders (yes, that one) has appeared in more films with an exploding helicopter than Al Pacino. The fried chicken king briefly appeared in HELL'S BLOODY DEVILS (1970) which features a chopper fireball. Meanwhile, Al Pacino has yet to make a film to interest us...

Friends, I recently guested on the True Bromance Podcast to discuss the modern classic and film that many people [ok, just me] are calling the "thinking man's Heat", DEN OF THIEVES. Do yourself a solid and make sure you check it out.

Watched ONE LAST SHOT (2026) Scott Adkins brings his espresso-themed series to a close. This was good, but at the moment I'd put the first two ahead of this one. Co-stars Dolph Lundgren and Nathan out of Corrie.

A helicopter becomes tangled in cables, crashes, and explodes. But is there enough fiery delight to pass the Exploding Helicopter test? We examine pilot error, lingering wreckage and Pierce Brosnan’s impressive career total in our latest episode on NO ESCAPE. Listen wherever you get your pods!

Owen Wilson: laid-back comic charmer… or convincing action hero? On the new Exploding Helicopter podcast, we review No Escape – the surprisingly brutal, relentlessly tense thriller that lets Wilson bludgeon a man to death without apologising first. Listen wherever you get your podcasts 🚁💥📽️🎧

Watched HEART OF THE BEAST (2026) and it was alright as far as it goes. The 'dog acting' in this film was tremendous though.

The Exploding Helicopter podcast returns this week... This time we'll be looking at NO ESCAPE (2015) a film that gives us the never before seen sight of Owen Wilson caving a man's skull in with his bare hands. You don't get that in a Wes Anderson film...

Watched OM - THE BATTLE WITHIN (2022) the 7️⃣2️⃣7️⃣th film I've seen with an exploding helicopter. 🚁💥📽️ This was a bit of a chopper fireball-fest. The exploding helicopters and there's at least two other wrecked whirlybirds to savour.

Watched ROOP KI RANI CHORON KA RAJA (1993) the 7️⃣2️⃣6️⃣th film I've seen with an exploding helicopter. 🚁💥📽️ This was absolutely wild. What I love about Indian cinema is that there is no set of coincidences too outrageous that they can't be the plot. An incredible film.

A note to screenwriters: moments of high drama are not heightened by providing details of toasted sandwiches.

Watched EYES IN THE NIGHT (1942) where a blind detective, aided by his guide dog, stop a Nazi plot. This wasn't particularly good. The mystery was far from enthralling. That said, the dog - called Friday - was quite entertaining when allowed to take centre stage.

Watched RESIDENT EVIL (2026). This has been very well reviewed and I found it... ok. Austin Abrams innocent abroad schtick gets a little old by the end, and for a film that's only 90 minutes I was really ready for it to end.

Watched THE FIX (2026) It's very watchable while also being very bland. The human drama is not compelling, the twists are unearned, while the big heist proves a damp squib. It reminded me a lot Triple Frontier. Another men-on-a-mission seemingly with something to say, only never articulating it.

Just finished a Michael Dudikoff triple bill. The very fun GALE FORCE (2002), the solid COUNTER MEASURES (1998) and Mikey Dudds in erotic thriller mode in THE WOMAN WHO SINNED (1991). All for an upcoming @bulletproofpod.bsky.social feature.

Watched DIABLO (2025) caught up with an unseen Adkins. A few of his recent efforts haven't been great, but this was surprisingly good. Looked good, well shot and Mark Zaror was an excellent foil for Scotty. Think I detected the first signs of grey in his normally immaculate beard.

Our collab with @cultmovie.cards celebrating helicopter explosions in films concludes with BLACK DYNAMITE (2009). 🚁💥📽️ Our hero survives the chopper fireball via parachute jump. It may seem an unlikely means of escape, but Ewan McGregor used the same trick in preposterous fashion in Angels & Demons.

Watched SHRAPNEL (2023). Tactical gunplay specialist William Kaufman does a Mexico-set version of Taken with Jason Patric showing off his particular set of skills. Clearly a modest enterprise, but it does everything it sets out to do.

Watched DR JEKYLL AND SISTER HYDE (1971) Excellent Hammer reworking of the classic tale that cleverly incorporates real-life Victorian murder lore. Roy Ward Baker works wonders on many fronts, not least putting this together with what appears to be an incredibly limited number of sets.

At least Ritchie doesn't use this film as an advert for the outdoor barbecue he's designed. You may remember a pointless scene in The Gentlemen where characters were sat round one in a shameless bit of product placement.

Watched MORT D'UN POURRI (1977) aka Death Of A Corrupt Man. Very good thriller with Alain Delon, Ornella Muti and Klaus Kinski. France is notorious for its corruption scandals and this is a deeply cynical film with shady worlds of politics, crime and the police all converging.

Watched IN THE GREY (2026) the 7️⃣2️⃣5️⃣th film I've seen with an exploding helicopter. 🚁💥🎥 It's not hard to see why this Guy Ritchie film sat on a shelf for two years, before finally being exposed to the projector's light this year.

Watched SNIPER: THE LAST STAND (2025) I really enjoyed this. I don't know what more you could ask from a DTV actioner. Good characters, good story, and some well choreographed and well shot action sequences. Just need to see No Nation and Rogue Mission to complete the series.

Watched SNIPER: LEGACY (2014). Berenger makes his return to the sharpshooter series. This was decent, despite featuring some of the worst expository dialogue I've ever heard. Now wondering if I should change my name by deed poll to Master Guns.

Watched RISE OF THE FOOTSOLDIER: RETRIBUTION (2026). It's cannot be overstated what a spectacularly odd film series this is. This is the seventh film but there's only been one sequel. The other five films are all prequels as Craig Fairbrass' character died in the first film.

Watched COYOTE VS ACME (2026) the 7️⃣2️⃣4️⃣th film I've seen with an exploding helicopter. 🚁💥🎥 This was mildly amusing (a view seemingly shared by the rest of the audience in my screening). I think this has been very generously reviewed.

Watched PRISONER IN THE MIDDLE (1977) and THE SWISS CONSPIRACY (1976) a couple of David Janssen films that I hoped might have exploding helicopters. Sadly, a no on both films (although the ending of The Swiss Conspiracy came close). Prisoner In the Middle was very boring with DJ
