Chopay @chopay.bsky.social · 29/09/2026It tracks that someone who lacks the self-awareness to engage in this sort of behavior wouldn't have any qualms about automating it. 031
Chopay @chopay.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Articulate and error-free while totally missing the mark on tone. Emojis for emphasis. This feels like AI. 120
Chopay @chopay.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Unrelated question: When you reference your old posts, are you just using the Bluesky search functions, or do you maintain a library of your takes? I'm routinely impressed by your ability to say "I was talking about this 15 months ago" and I want to know how you do it. 000

Chopay @chopay.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Isn't the question of who gets to decide what has merit the problem with all meritocracies? They exist to reinforce existing power structures. Even if they are replaced, who is to say the alternative is any better? 010

Chopay @chopay.bsky.social · 09/09/2026I don't think Facebook/Meta gets to go unmentioned here. ML really entered public consciousness with surveilance-tech, and Meta were pioneers in that realm. To your point, it'd be rad if there were a consumer-facing application of AI that wasn't really gross, or at least not ethically fraught. 020
Chopay @chopay.bsky.social · 09/09/2026It's a bigger shot in the foot than that. Notice how every food product now advertises its protein content. Stores are having a hard time keeping whey on the shelves with people adjusting their diets because of GLP-1's. 071
Chopay @chopay.bsky.social · 07/09/2026Most people have the good sense not to make eye-contact and pay attention as deeply to the other as the two of them during that 60-second clip. That's Nathan's schtick, but not only is she playing his game, she's 3 turns away from checkmate, and he hasn't figured out her moves. So much subtext. 031
Chopay @chopay.bsky.social · 07/09/2026I will be seeing it opening night, and I am glad that there are people out there like you because it gives me license for when it is the only thing I will be talking about for the following month. 030

Chopay @chopay.bsky.social · 04/09/2026I was being tongue-in-cheek, but I do agree with you. I also disagree with the quote's assertion about a lack of an Alberta culture. I'd say the same about every province. The fact it is not universally experienced would be a greater indictment of Canadian culture if that's the yardstick. 020
Chopay @chopay.bsky.social · 04/09/2026Whether a nation's legends are told about young men's loss of innocence on Vimy Ridge or in the Big Four Roadhouse, both are equally valid foundations for a country. 120
Chopay @chopay.bsky.social · 04/09/2026Sure, you and I might not think its "work," but CRA should really be the judge of that. Someone should give them a call. 130
Chopay @chopay.bsky.social · 03/09/2026Serious question: How much editorial control does the government get to exercise over the BBC? In Canada, 'Defund the CBC' is a right-wing call-to-arms where they see public broadcast as necessarily aligned with Ottawa, when reality it is the only major broadcaster that isn't captured by monopoly. 110
Chopay @chopay.bsky.social · 03/09/2026One of my core issues with lab grown meat is that it seems like a lot of effort grow it from cells when it would be far easier to breed consciousness out of livestock. I think a similar approach would be warranted for your case. Gummifing humans seems like the way to go. 020

Chopay @chopay.bsky.social · 31/08/2026Outside of Lemmy on Austurstræti, a guy approached me and asked me if I wanted to buy "Icelandic Drugs." I politely declined, then he made me promise I wouldn't give him a cigarette if he asked. I agreed and he hugged me and proceeded to tell me about his divorce. There are probably better ways. 040
Chopay @chopay.bsky.social · 29/08/2026I know more about the gold side than diamonds, but banks want to buy large volumes and sourcing it would come with a bunch of costs with a bunch of smaller dealers. Refined and certified in Switzerland, then to New York to minimize flight distance. 120
Chopay @chopay.bsky.social · 29/08/2026It's getting them on the books that Switzerland does. It's the certificate that says weight and purity that accompanies the metal/gem that buyers want. Especially if you're a big buyer. 220

Chopay @chopay.bsky.social · 24/08/2026We've seen the Trump admin walk back, or at least shelve its plans when confronted with reality or opposition. See: Greenland, Ukraine, Beef tariffs. I don't want to be overly optimistic, but if they were rational actors, we wouldn't be in this position in the first place. Nothing is certain. 000

Chopay @chopay.bsky.social · 24/08/2026In my experience, all the talk about how different strains affect you isn't real, potency notwithstanding. I find it exaggerates my existing mood and gives a microphone to the thoughts in the back of my head. This can be fun and silly, but its mostly anxious introspection. 100
Chopay @chopay.bsky.social · 21/08/2026I'll go as far as to say that I'm amazed that scientists have been able parse speech and have machines produce reasonably intelligible responses. What disgusts me is that the flagship products made with this technical achievement are all the most unethical garbage imaginable. 010
Chopay @chopay.bsky.social · 21/08/2026I'm Canadian and work with a lot of beef producers. From the outside looking in, this is about the dumbest decision possible for growing US herd numbers. It removes any economic incentive for raising cattle if it's just going to be undercut with imports. 100
Chopay @chopay.bsky.social · 18/08/2026I fall firmly in this category, so thanks for mentioning it. I used to be into films and then... I don't know. I got interested in other stuff, I guess. I'm actually pretty disappointed that I haven't been excited about new movies, because I know some great stuff has been made. 001
