#movies Monsters, Inc. (2001) • rewatch — In the past this was always my go-to for "favorite Pixar movie," and on this rewatch I still think it is the one to beat, though I still have a ways to go for seeing them all. But this one is just a delight from start to finish.

#books I finished reading a couple fantasy novels: "Elric of Melnibone" and "The Fortress of the Pearl," both from The Elric Saga series of books by Michael Moorcock, from the 1970s-80s. Serialized tales of a brooding emperor-adventurer. Lots of swords and sorcery, with a dash of philosophy.

#movies The Fearless Vampire Killers (1967) — A parody of vampire movies seems like easy money, especially with the focus on a couple of bumbling vampire hunters. But there aren't any jokes in this one, or at least, no jokes above the comedic level of a Ziggy comic.

#movies Hokum (2026) — A movie I can say "it's good" and leave it at that. If you like horror, this is a solid one. It doesn't reinvent the wheel (which is fine). But perhaps it has one too many plates it wants to spin, keeping this from feeling like the more focused masterpiece I'd love it to be.

#movies Godzilla: Final Wars (2004) — The dumbest, loudest, wildest, and most bombastic anime/wrestling Godzilla film. A send-up to a lot of the campier Showa-era movies, and a spiritual remake of Destroy All Monsters specifically (basically the Avengers Endgame of that era's kaiju flicks).

Dreamcast Game #10 - Mr. Driller. This game was on a lot of systems (including Game Boy Color), but it feels right at home on Dreamcast alongside ChuChu Rocket. A really addicting action puzzler that I'm really bad at! Looks incredibly simple at first, but then you get squashed 5 seconds later.

Dreamcast Game #9 - Dynamite Cop (aka Dynamite Deka 2). An arcade 3D beat-em-up full of wacky nonsense. It reminds me of Power Stone, in that I'm always going straight for one of the many weapons strewn about. This sure is a game of the late 90s! Mindless fun best enjoyed with a friend.

Watched a 6-episode mini-series on Netflix called Sai. It's a series of vignettes about people in Japan really struggling with life. A mysterious old man then shows up, and tragedy follows: someone inexplicably dies, and the Calamity Man takes his leave with nary a suspicion.

And that movie is "Milky☆Subway: The Galactic Limited Express - The Movie" from this year (2026). It's just really funny, what can I say. Six delinquents (three aliens and three cyborgs) have to clean up a space train, which turns out to be a crazy space train. It's on Netflix; go watch it.

Welp I've watched 600 #movies since I started keeping track of watching movies. In my quoted post I shared 5 less popular films I'd recommend, and I can build off that list with another favorite of mine that has under 50k views on Letterboxd...

#movies #anime Goodbye, Don Glees! (2021) — Ah, this one hurts. I'll preface this by saying one of my top favorite anime series is "A Place Further than the Universe," which shares the same director and character designer as this, and has overlap with this in terms of plot, themes, and tone.

#movies High Plains Drifter (1973) — Bleak, grim, and miserable. This is a western that wants to shock you with how awful everyone is, and I guess it succeeds at that but I don't know if it makes for an interesting movie. The plot is really meandering, some scenes just dragging on and on.

#movies Sonatine (1993) — Why doesn't anyone ever react to anything? I'm starting to think Takeshi's films just aren't for me. (He's got a cool castle though.) A review I read says that this movie basically had just a few scenes planned and the rest was all improvised... And I believe it!

Dreamcast Game #8 - Toy Commander. Crazy how nostalgic this game is for me. You control toy vehicles to complete a variety of missions: win a race, blow up a target, capture a base, safely transport cargo, move green army men from point to point, put out fires... Delightful art style & catchy music.

Dreamcast Game #7 - Rez. A super unique game that must be played to be believed. It's a rail-shooter (a la Panzer Dragoon) but set in a Tron-like cyberspace, with your attacks and progression continually adding to the trance-techno soundtrack. Looks and sounds just as amazing now as it did in 2001.

#films Inception (2010) • rewatch — For a good while, if I were to be asked what my favorite movie was—and I wanted to pick something that the average person knew—I would go with Inception. I'd probably go with Jurassic Park nowadays lol, but I still completely dig this one.

#movies The Flintstones (1994) — Reminded me a lot of the 2000 Grinch movie. Amazing production design, successfully bringing a silly cartoon to life. But I couldn't help but think, they proved we could make a live-action Flintsones movie... but *should* we have made a live-action Flintstones movie?

Dreamcast Game #6 - Power Stone. I sure am not good at this game, but it's a lot of fun. To this day I consider Power Stone the ideal pick-up-and-play party fighter. (What I mean to say is, I like it way more than Smash Bros.) Fast-paced, hectic, and featuring a memorable cast of fighters.
