Data: - LLMs are killing the planet - LLMs are raising utility prices - LLMs are raising computer prices - LLMs give you teh dums - LLMs show negligible increases in net productivity - LLM costs are going up - LLMs run on stolen content - LLM companies keep breaking laws and saying, "Oopsie!" […]

MIKE is finally here and I am so excited! 80B public keys! 4.86ms secret generation! A proper NIKE! Security is just the isogeny problem! Short and simple constant-time implementation in both C and rust! This has to be the curve25519 of its generation. mike.isogeni.es

Been at FUTURES discovery day today at We the Curious in Bristol with @compscibristol.bsky.social Thank especially to @fdupress and Alma Oracevic who have been spreading the joy of cracking codes alongside me all day!
A tabletop stall at a science fair. There is a treasure chest with coloured chains around it and matching coloured clue cards. There is a poster saying "Can you Crack the Code?", pencils and paper, stickers, and 2 code wheels for solving Caesar ciphers.

Woohoo, the TLS key exchange algorithm Chrome, Firefox, and friends have been using for the last two years is now an actual standard! datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc10…

RFC 10024: Post-Quantum Traditional (PQ/T) Hybrid Key Agreement Mechanisms for TLS 1.3
This document defines three hybrid key agreement mechanisms for TLS 1.3 -- X25519MLKEM768, SecP256r1MLKEM768, and SecP384r1MLKEM1024 -- that combine the post-quantum ML-KEM (Module-Lattice-Based Key Encapsulation Mechanism) with an ECDHE (Ephemeral Elliptic Curve Diffie-Hellman) exchange.

I had a lot of fun making her gift. Elliptic products are central to her thesis (as the Néron-Severi group of an elliptic product is closely related to the morphisms between the elliptic curves). Eda did half of her PhD in Bristol and half in Neuchâtel with […] [Original post on mathstodon.xyz]
A 3D printed model of a large complex torus with two smaller complex tori attached. The larger one has text "j = C("Bristol" mod 1/2 0xeda") and the smaller ones have text "j = C("Neuchatel" mod 1/2 0xeda)". Where the smaller tori are attached the elliptic curve points of the larger torus are also written on; these are (0:1:0) and (51:587:1).
