So @mmonzel.bsky.social read my bsky thread and proposed we extend these ideas into a theory paper - and thus, this preprint was born! A unifying theory of aphantasia: Aphantasia as the inability to disengage from the external environment osf.io/preprints/ps...

A short highlight of the beautiful recent work by @varunswadia.bsky.social, Doris Tsao et al., providing single-neuron evidence of the overlap between imagery and perception! www.nature.com/articles/s41...

happy to see this out in the wild! we analyzed (many) verbal reports, and found that people can “see” all kinds of things in Ganzflicker-induced hallucinations, from dots and lines to skylines, forests, and faces. But not everyone. Weak imagers mostly described flashes and movement

Thanks so much! Means a lot coming from you. I hope we get a chance to chat about the interoceptive theory of imagery one of these days.

Our new preprint explores what people with different visual imagery abilities 'see' during Ganzflicker-induced hallucinations. We used NLP + ML techniques to analyze descriptions from 4,000+ participants. See what we found in @kerblooee.bsky.social's thread
