Because some fonctionnaire in Québec was triggered by the word "Canada", I and many others had to pass their driving licence exam twice. Nationalism makes people petty and honestly dumb.

Italy signed an MoU for mutual recognition of driving licences 10 years ago. Things have stalled since for a number of reasons, including the fact that Québec didn't want "Canada" to be mentioned anywhere in the agreement. I'm not kidding. Petty souvernanism all around us.

It's in interesting case of "partially modernized" legacy network. You see a lot of features of a modern network but still a lot of legacy network features in terms of signal priority, RoW sharing and stop spacing, especially in the core. But it looks like they are working on it.

I have a dear friend living in Delft and hence I visited many times. That tram extension has been under construction forever. Deeply mismanaged project.

8 stories is a bit too much for a small patio...

Well, the patio house is the most ancient form of urban housing typology. It works pretty well, but up to 2-3 floors max.

As often in contemporary North American densification : too much FAR and lot coverage for too little allowable height = a Kowloon walled city in the making

It's a fascinating insight about how the Swiss think about traffic management. One of the goals of this setup is to reduce transit delay so rural buses can arrive at the station on time to not miss the timed connexion, but also for car queues to be pushed upstream, outside of the built-up area.

Fascinating article about the virtual contraflow queue-jump (also called "electronic bus overtaking lane" in the article) opened in 2019 between Ehrendingen and Baden in Switzerland. There is also a video showing how it works. www.badenertagblatt.ch/aargau/baden...

Nice tool to quickly visualize transit isochrones in many cities: tram.camilleroux.com/montreal/?fr... LEFT: how far you can get in 60 minutes from the CÉGEP Marie-Victorin (12 km from B-UQAM) vs RIGHT: Sunnybrooke (17 km from B-UQAM). Marie-Victorin was supposed to get a REM de l'Est station

But some consultant paid their cottage mortgage out of it and consultancy firms' stakeholders are happy, so we can't really say if it was a good or bad idea

I get it, but there are actual evident trade-offs with this design. And that's the only station adopting it. The others have simpler shelters and enclosed waiting areas. It seems like a bit of an overkill for a city with crying needs for better transit everywhere.

There is no layover here. Buses just stop & go

Full shading is less of an issue in Winnipeg's climate. But protection from cold and wind definitely is. I guess it makes snow clearance easier too (but that can be solved with heated platforms). And enclosed heated waiting areas like they have in Québec.

Marco Chitti @chittimarco.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
That's a good point. Bit knowing that, wouldn't an open-air station solve this, maybe with more minimalist enclosed waiting areas like they have in Québec City?

Marco Chitti @chittimarco.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
There is one simple trick to solve it, though: not having a roof to start with.

I have no idea. Probably higher salaries overall, but more economic disparity between large and medium cities with a more developed tertiary and an emptied out "third Italy". But maybe not. Not every country can be the seat of a "command economy"

I don't think I've seen a door so primitive in my entire career as an architect. Do Canadians know that there is a whole world out there where you have laminated doors and hinges you don't see? And the close properly for decades!

Advertising: "luxury condos!" Looks inside: painted baseboards, painted doors that don't close because of poor quality hinges, panels with just half if the screws, windows with the handle that doesn't close properly, etc.

Sure. It's just that coming from a country where I have been living all my political life in the shadow of Berlusconi-era populism and its following incarnations it feels like something that is just part of the politics of our era
