Don't just let Banned Books Week be just another mostly cisallohet white people display. Get proactive and get your patrons engaged. They need to know they have a voice, they have power. Libraries aren't neutral. Our job is to provide information, so provide it.

Your displays should be mostly marginalized identities and experiences. Your display should also provide your patrons with resources for learning about bans and challenges, and how to get involved with their local community.

Ideas: include dates or links/QR to upcoming school board or library board mtgs, great; provide comment cards for patrons to express how much they appreciate diverse books; provide links/QR to PENAmerica or AABB; provide stats and information about *why* books are being banned, not just which ones.

It's Banned Books Week. My fellow librarians, listen carefully: your book displays should be almost exclusively writers who are alive. Yes, I know classic literature is also being banned, but most of those authors are dead. They aren't suffering financially from bans and challenges.

Back when I was RPing in FFXIV, I seemed to get a lot of positive attention for just... RPing a good natured, (apparently) normal Big Guy. He had some heavier stuff going on behind the scenes, but... it almost never came up, so he was just a friendly swordsman retired-to-merchant mentor figure.

Remember folks, if you're worried about passing, make sure you're getting enough water and fiber. You can get psyllium husk supplements to help if you need to, but diet and hydration are the best ways to address issues with passing.
