I’m doing a lot of slow practice in the kit right now. 40 bpm 1/8 note click, 1(+)a2… kick/hat or 1(ea)2… kick/ghost. Each for like 10 minutes. It’s such good practice. One day I’ll get to 1/4 click.

Just spent 10 minutes playing 1(+)a repeated, only feet, at 40 bpm. Metronome was set to 80 because I need the fence posts but we’ll get there! I’ve been wanting to do more time work.

I’ve vaguely posted about this recently but my second kiddo came into this world complicated. They had a pretty massive stroke localized to the left hemisphere of their brain. They are making a ton of progress and Boston is one of the best places in the world for this injury.

Just had a super good drum session. Basic premise, let the time drive the notes. I was doing this clave based rhythm and switching between 1/4 and 1/8s on the hi hat with a metronome. If time drives, this should be easy.

Learned something about my drum set today. My bass drum was entirely too far away from my pedal. This is a lot easier now but obviously my timing is kind of wonky.
