Oooooh, rates for rail shippers. In general are these over or under regulated? What's the best way to fix this?

By rates do you mean tax depreciation rates?

Considering that some high fertility countries have not performed a census in decades, we could very well have overestimated their population growth. Hell, Nigeria has the whole "ghost citizen" phenomenon, which overinflates its current population

I do think some republicanism (tho certainly not the rabid kind that disparages constitutional monarchy) is needed in the USA. Many of the architects of the American far right, such as Thiel or Yarvin or the Claremont Institute, want the US ruled by an absolute ceo monarch or a "Caesar"

there's also the role of SCOTUS in Trump v United States as well as SCOTUS removing the legislative veto decades earlier

chinsum.bsky.social @chinsum.bsky.social · 20/09/2026
yeah, Trump v United States is why I'm pro court packing, more than any other reason. it's an assault on the very rule of law, and any plan to reconstruct democracy in America that doesn't account for SCOTUS is DoA

So basically the smoke will float up to the ceiling and you'd rather have like that (since people can duck and breath in less fumes) rather than have the fans potentially blow it throughout the tunnel?

There's a clause in Article III that states that judges "hold their Offices during good Behavior". That has often been interpreted as lifetime appointments more or less. Congress can do stuff like court packing or jurisdiction stripping with mere legislation. This requires an amendment

My impression was that the old Mt Royal would get used for the light rail, which would be routed through the Howard Street Tunnel. Admittedly that Twitter thread is gone so I'm just guessing stuff

Idk but I think Penn does get mothballed. Wdym by Mt Royal? The current light rail station or the former rail station that's part of the Howard Street Tunnel?

chinsum.bsky.social @chinsum.bsky.social · 03/08/2026
Basically it's this bsky.app/profile/bens... passengers would transfer from Penn Line MARC trains to the metro at Lexington Market, which would also become the intercity station. Freight gets routed through the B&P tunnel, opening up the Howard Street Tunnel for passenger rail

I think the GOP response to mask mandates is quite illuminating. At the start of covid 19 you had people across the political spectrum get scared. Genuine solidarity and willful quarantine. And then Trump shat on masks (cuz they messed up his bronzer) and a light switch flipped

It's that, affluenza, and the fact that US policy making is really jank. You have shit like the Byrd bath, the filibuster, SCOTUS, and a bunch of other veto points and shit that obscure the chain of cause and effect in the minds of voters. Which rewards the bat shit insane party (GOP)

Proportional voting is good for the house of representatives but fucking transformational when it comes state legislatures. You're going from one party states to multiparty states in most cases

I was mostly motivated by the idea of getting MARC to finally connect with the Baltimore metro at Upton. Basically refurbish and use the B&P Tunnel after the Frederick Douglass Tunnel gets built to further separate intercity and regional rail (tho this might require a flyover)
