Some more views from our new Railway Remembered title to start the week. D8522 entered service in June 1963 and on 17 June 1968 is seen passing Ravenglass, the RER can be glimpsed to the right. All the Clayton Type 1 Bo-Bo Class 17 locos were withdrawn by 1971, only one being preserved.

We were given a look behind the scenes at the @chinnorrailway.bsky.social diesel event on Saturday. Locos seen included 37418 and unrestored 47367. Looked like a great gala though we only had a short time there as we were just collecting some stuff from one of the volunteers.

Saw a most interesting loco at @chinnorrailway.bsky.social on Saturday, a 1927 built Sentinel restored as BR 47109. It has a vertical boiler and chain drive. Similar to two used on the S&D, I think this loco spent its life in industrial service around London and that its BR identity is contrived.

Yesterday’s 1C14 16:20 departure from Princes Risborough saw D1501 run the length of the line non stop to Chinnor in 14 minutes. This time lapse shows the drivers view. (Unfortunately the thrash going up Chinnor bank meant the camera fell off the windscreen just after Wainhill crossing 🤦‍♂️)

Coloured in another bit of the Baker Atlas today, the branch from Princes Risborough to Aylesbury that had intrigued me for years as I flew past on the main line. Saturday trains run through to Marylebone so we missed departure from the bay but still it’s a remarkable survivor.

Network Rail is advising passengers travelling between Aylesbury and London via Great Missenden to plan ahead over the Easter bank holiday weekend due to disruption caused by HS2 construction works. A major step forward for our independent line over the last 2 days. An 18 wagon train brought in 900 tons of ballast that was laid along our 800m independent line, which connects our platform at Princes Risborough with Thame Jcn. The next step is to tamp the track and connect up signalling equipment
Three railway lines that curve to the left.
On the left the new Chinnor Independent line which has two rail mounted excavators on it - one near and one in the distance.
In the middle, the existing Princes Risborough Reception Line that connects Platform 4 with the Network Rail Thame Branch. The ballast train is on this line.
On the right, the Network Rail Thame Branch which connects to Platform 3 of Princes Risborough station. Two railway lines bottom right curving away to the top left. The line is surrounded by leafless winter trees.
On the left, the Independent line with excavators taking ballast from the wagon train.
On the right, Network Rail's Thame branch. The ballast wagons are on this line.
The Excavators and wagons are bright yellow.
