Apparently in my "supporting worker-owned journalism outlets starting with R" era, first @rascal.news and now @weareravenous.com. This is a great deal -- grab it while it's still up!

Some radical transparency: we may only have a year left at our current pace. If you'd like to help us survive to reach our full potential, consider subscribing, donating, or buying a gift subscription.

Holy shit. @michellicopter.bsky.social’s call was the reason I applied, along with @newmadras.bsky.social’s reminder in the Indie RPG Newsletter not to edit yourself off the page from these things. To everyone who voted for a nobody who feels a lot about games: Thank you, thank you.

Happy 13th Birthday to Oh Joy Sex Toy! Join our Patreon Pledge Drive this month for BONUS COMICS and to keep the site going for one more year! www.patreon.com/OhJoySexToy
Erika draws with a bouncy, cartoony style and uses a color palette of warm yellows, oranges, and reddy-pinks.

"Ahh, summer again!" Exclaims Erika, a white cis middle-age woman in beach attire, which is appropriate since she and her crew are walking on a sandy beach.

Ahead of her walks Ziggy, a trans man in his 40s with a heavily tattooed arm, gauged ears, and a septum piercing. He wears big round glasses, a Pokemon trainer's baseball hat, swim trunks and a tank top while toting in more beach supplies under his arms.

He adds, "That means sunshine, BBQs, and celebrating-"

"Oh Joy Sex Toy's 13th Birthday!" reads the text on a giant beach umbrella that Matt stakes into the sand. He is a devastatingly handsome white cis British man with salt and pepper hair who has just crossed the threshold into his 40s. He wears square-ish glasses, a t-shirt, shorts, and sneakers.

"We invite you all to chip in to our annual Pledge Drive and support the site this month!" Matt continues.
"For the price of a fancy coffee-"

"(or tea)" Erika interrupts.

"(or kombucha!)" Adds Ziggy.

"-you keep the site going AND get access to a bunch of BONUS COMICS that we've been cooking up this last few months.*" Finishes Matt with an iced coffee in his hands while Erika and Ziggy rest under the umbrella, each holding up their own iced tea and kombucha.

Caption: *In addition to all the previous years' extra stories if you haven't read them yet.
The scene shifts from the beach to show samples of the bonus comics, under a ribbon banner labeled "Preview"

Caption: Ripley LaCross travels through a backpacking retrospective. Hien Pham tackles Hourly Comic Day. Jey Pawlik explores what sketchbooks mean to them.
Surfing in on a wave of comic pages, Matt says, "Last year, we had to consider closing... but with our successful Pledge Drive, instead you all helped us raise our rates to commission 27 new and returning guest artists to publish 52 comics for the site, which now has... gosh, 680 comics, all available for free to the folks who need them."

Prepping for a new play-by-post of #GoodSocietyRPG using the Lady Susan P.I. expansion and GASPING once again over the incredible production value of this game. The colors! The cards! The shareable Google Sheets specific to the playset! Thank you for making it so easy to play this beautiful game!

(Spoilers for Sky King's Tomb) Prepping for next game. Ygrin Oathcarver is going to enter our story. In the AP, he doesn't show up until the end of Book 1, but as a lesser villain, he should be A Presence. He'll chat with a PC to see if she's willing to exchange some info for coin... #ChickyRunsSKT

Use vignettes to show different plot points in motion. (This is why reading all 3 books is helpful.) Show your players a brief scene happening elsewhere in the world. You don't have to give anything away, just tease. Like a fey queen angry about a theft, or counterfeit dwarven goods being sold. 9/9

In the Silvercap Tavern (Bk 1 Ch 1), PCs can find an IOU in a lockbox. They're going to want to do something about this IOU. As written, it feels like a clue but is actually a dead end, and will just frustrate the PCs. Exclude it, or tie it to the Family Crypt mission at the end of the chapter. 8/9

DOWNTIME. My party zipped through 3 missions in Book 1 Chapter 1 within a single day. Now there's all this momentum and nowhere to go for a few in-game weeks. Slow down. This chapter shows PCs that Highhelm (and by extension dwarven society) is interesting, complicated, and worth championing. 7/9

The Tolorr Family Feast shouldn't be the first time PCs meet the VIPs relevant to the skill challenge. They should matter early. Link them to PC backstory, have them show up to chat, etc. They should remain an established resource for PCs and can be used to deliver future plot points. 6/9

Connect a PC to Krohan, e.g. a cousin who knows about — but wasn't involved in — the scandal. Bulgra is also the PC's grandma. Use these existing connections to give more gravitas for Krohan's return to Highhelm, instead of "mysterious hooded stranger asks you for a dangerous favor." 5/9

Insist that your party be at least 50% dwarves, if not all dwarves. This is one of those stories where a single ancestry actually makes it more fun. The plot is intriguing but made of disparate parts. Being intentional about who the PCs are gives you more levers to pull later. 4/9

Do you need "Lost Omens: Highhelm"? No, but it helps especially if your PCs like to wander. "Travel Guide" has the Basilisk rules and the "World Guide" has sections on the Five Kings Mountains that can all become delicious garnish on the cake of your game, but they're not necessary. 3/9

Invest in the #FoundryVTT module. It's worth the $, even if it IS missing some maps that would be helpful to have (Aye Spydie Maps on Patreon has got you for those). With your PCs in mind, read all 3 books from cover to cover twice. Take copious notes. Draw a timeline (Scapple is good for this). 2/9

I'm new to GMing #PF2e. 6 sessions into @paizo.com's Sky King's Tomb and I'm having SO MUCH FUN. However, it's not the easiest material to work with. Here's what I've done so far to make it work for my table/what I would have liked to know before starting. Spoilers ahead! #ChickyRunsSKT 1/9

What a great writeup! Saved for a future game session. I played the playtest content GM’d by a friend and was super drawn to the system. Thank you for helping me run a game of my own!
