We were delighted to welcome @chiarazulberti.bsky.social last week, who presented the innovative method she developed to describe gestures in chimpanzees 🙉 And Jennifer Leão Correia, who gave a seminar on peer interactions in twins 👶👶 Many thanks to both for the inspiring talks and discussions!

Today, over 20,000 bee species are buzzing for #WorldBeeDay 🐝 Bees & other pollinators keep 80% of crop and wild flowering plants alive. Yet, 1 in 10 bee, hoverfly, and butterfly species are now at risk of extinction in the EU.
Split-image with the text “TO BEE or NOT TO BEE.” The left side shows a vibrant wildflower meadow with a bee on a daisy, symbolising biodiversity and a healthy ecosystem. The right side shows a dry, barren landscape with dead trees and no visible wildlife, representing environmental degradation. An EU flag appears in the bottom right corner.

Our (@maelmleroux.bsky.social et al.) paper out today in #RSOS: we tested the ability of bonobos to process 'non-adjacent dependencies'. Surprisingly, unlike our prior work on chimps and marmosets, we found no evidence that they did so... royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/...

Non-adjacent dependency processing (or lack thereof) in bonobos: an artificial grammar experiment | Royal Society Open Science
A key feature of language is our capacity to process syntactic relationships between words, whether they are directly sequential (‘adjacent dependencies’) or separated by other words (‘non-adjacent dependencies’). Recent data suggest that the basic ...
