Nayyara @chevonair.com · 06/05/2025Funniest feature I’ve seen in GitLab so far would probably be dynamic child pipelines. Depending on how you view it, it’s kinda like metaprogramming pipelines. Or I guess metapipelining. That said, I’ve implemented it on a use case where it’s a great fit. Almost exactly what I needed/wanted. Crazy 100
Nayyara @chevonair.com · 01/05/2025I’m back folks. Starting to get used to the pace at my current role. No promises, but might post every once in a while here 000
Nayyara @chevonair.com · 15/03/2025I’ve been documenting a bit about the projects and logging my work as I do them. I wonder if I should share them to the team or if I should just keep it to myself 000
Nayyara @chevonair.com · 14/03/2025Whew. Got through my first week pretty well. Handled a few tickets and projects. Didn’t expect to work on all this so soon but I’ll take the experience 😌 000
Nayyara @chevonair.com · 12/03/2025It’s only my third day here and I’m already working on infra tickets and projects. Nothing beats getting hands-on when it comes to adjusting and learning 000
Nayyara @chevonair.com · 11/03/2025TIL that ubuntu and debian base Docker images don’t have ca-certificates installed 000
Nayyara @chevonair.com · 08/03/2025A friend of mine linked me to Hashicorp’s Raft implementation. Not the one using BoltDB though. The one that used WAL. The storage engine works similarly to SSTables in LSM trees but instead of merging, it truncates the head. Makes sense since Raft logs are append-only. github.com/hashicorp/ra...github.comGitHub - hashicorp/raft-wal: experimental raft storageexperimental raft storage. Nayyara @chevonair.com · 07/03/2025I’m not sure if it fits my needs as we sometimes use Infisical to store config files and other files such as certificates. We don’t really have a lot of JS code as well. The idea of unifying the validation and access through dmno is interesting though. Do you plan on supporting other languages? 100
Nayyara @chevonair.com · 07/03/2025I’ve been writing tools on top of our secret manager, Infisical, to make a configurable setup for injecting secrets during the CI/CD execution of our GitOps repo. Maybe I’ll open-source it one of these days 100
Nayyara @chevonair.com · 07/03/2025Life’s been a bit busy lately. I just graduated two weeks ago and will start working as an SRE next Monday 🎉 000
Nayyara @chevonair.com · 15/01/2025Gonna archive the previous idea for now. I got a more interesting challenge at work 000
Nayyara @chevonair.com · 11/01/2025I’m thinking of building a proximity-based app. Something like finding the nearest coffee shops near a 500 m, 1 km, 2 km, 5 km, or 10 km radius 000
Nayyara @chevonair.com · 10/01/2025So I finally have a lot more free time since I’m just about to graduate. Will be posting more often here hopefully because of it 😅 000
Nayyara @chevonair.com · 22/11/2024In the spirit of learning, I wrote a post about using Sentry for tracing multithreaded programs. Nayyara @chevonair.com · 19/11/2024I wanted to add tracing to our services. I was told that @sentry.io actually has them for a while. I only knew Sentry for error monitoring and issue tracking so this piqued my interest. Suffice to say, I love it. 010

Nayyara @chevonair.com · 17/11/2024The more I read about storage structures in databases, the more I realize how complex it is and how much I took it for granted. Advancements in this area has allowed for more complex and different use-cases such as log storage, time-series databases, etc. 110

Nayyara @chevonair.com · 15/11/2024I’m very green to distributed systems and the likes but the software internals discord has really helped me get my bearings and get my feet wet with the state of development now 020

Nayyara @chevonair.com · 12/11/2024With so many resources online, sometimes I get into analysis paralysis. I think I’m just gonna read DDIA and Database Internals for now and see where this takes me 000
Nayyara @chevonair.com · 11/11/2024Definitely. I don’t even glance at the summary and just scroll down to look for the sites I actually need 000

Nayyara @chevonair.com · 08/11/2024I’ve only just started getting into database internals and DuckDB has been quite fascinating to read from. You mentioned that there are other major databases that implement OCC but I can’t seem to find any. Can you share a few of them here? 110
