The absolute tiniest of the oribatids I’ve seen so far. This Damaeidae mite was the smallest of the bunch, with a fine fuzzy coating, most of which has since fallen off. Possibly epibiotic fungi? These mites are practice for research in Pembrokeshire on Dr. Sarah Beynon's Farm. #Invert 🪲🪳🌿
An extreme close-up of a tiny reddish-brown oribatid mite walking on white printer paper. The mite has a glossy, oval-shaped body with fine legs and is covered in a thin, patchy coating of particulate fuzz. The paper’s fibers and texture are visible under magnification. Much of the coating has fallen off, revealing the mite's shiny exoskeleton. The nature of the coating is unclear, though it may be epibiotic fungi.Macro image of the same mite from a slightly different angle. Its reddish-brown body and legs are more clearly defined, with sparse, fine debris still clinging to the legs and exoskeleton. The mite appears semi-glossy and minuscule, walking across the fibrous surface of printer paper. The fuzz coating is mostly gone, giving a clearer view of its body segmentation and texture.A dramatic macro photo showing the mite walking atop a glass petri dish, which is placed over a one-pound coin. The gold-colored rim and embossed markings of the coin are softly visible beneath the glass, with warm lighting creating a cinematic glow. The mite appears suspended on the glass surface, minuscule in scale. It still has remnants of the fine coating, which may be epibiotic fungi, though its origin is uncertain.

Our Observation of the Day is this beetle (potentially in the genus Cyphagogus), seen in China by jiangyou! More details at: www.inaturalist.org/observations...
A small reddish-brownish beetle. The overall body is elongate with a clear separation between thorax and abdomen. The front two pairs of legs are relatively short, while the rear pair of legs are about as long as the beetle's body.
