I realize that I’m not the target audience for Coven Academy, but I’m totally the right demo for anyone paying for the damn Disney+ subscription for any kids watching it, so if you show a 1998 high school yearbook photo that’s supposed to have a teenaged Tiffani Amber Thiessen in it, COME ON!
A black and white yearbook photo of three girls wearing plaid uniforms that resemble the primary school uniforms of a girl I babysat.

The girl on the left is tall with long, curly hair, and is the mom of the main character. The girl is the middle looks like the main character, with long dark hair with blond highlights in pigtails, and is blond as an adult. And the girl on the right has dark brown hair and isn’t Tiffani Amber Thiessen, who spent most of the 90s playing a high school student.

There was an article in Le Monde by Guillaume Beringer comparing the success of Die Linke, The Left party, in Berlin elections, to Le France Insoumise (LFI) and other European leftist parties, and it applies just as much to aspiring leftist parties in the Americas. apple.news/AcY81hfNkQqm...
Above all, Die Linke fully embraces its government ambitions. The party has made clear its willingness to enter coalitions, not ruling out working with the SPD or the Greens, and has even raised, in some Länder, the possibility of tolerating a conservative government to block the far-righ-Alternative for Germany. This capacity for compromise - which in France is seen by part of the radical left as a betrayal - is here claimed as a token of responsibility. Die Linke has not cast itself as a perpetual opponent but as a potential governing partner, ready to wield power to implement its program, especially on housing. This stance has reassured moderate voters seeking a credible and pragmatic left-wing alternative.
.“The transformation of Die Linke and its Berlin triumph is sending a strong message to the entire European left. They have demonstrated that it is possible to combine radical programs and political realism, provided oversized egos and a culture of fruitless battles are set aside. By putting concrete issues (housing, wages, healthcare) above internal squabbles, and by favoring collective leadership over the providential figure, Die Linke succeeded where many others have failed by becoming useful again.

As negotiations to form the new Berlin government begin, all eyes are on whether this reinvented party can deliver. If Die Linke manages to implement its rent policies and govern over the long term, it may well have paved the way for a new springtime for the left, far beyond Germany's borders.

Guillaume Beringer is a certified German teacher and associate professor at the University of Paris-Nanterre, specializing in German studies and the history of ideas.”

This seems right. I mean, they won’t be happy that there’s no Palestine, but they’ll love that there’s no Israel, so I think it’s an acceptable compromise.
An imaginary map of the Soviet Union, appropriately from r/ imaginary maps. I was going to make something similar, but the internet had me covered. The Peters projection of Europe, most of Asia, and most of the Middle East, shows every country labeled as a Soviet Socialist Republic in both English and Cyrillic.

Below the land mass, it’s labeled “The Soviet Union,” key “facts” about the “country” to the left, and a key that has labels for each autonomous region demarcated within certain republics.

Oct 7th was an “incident,” you see, and if you think about it, it was really the fault of those kids at the music festival and families on kibbutzim, collective settlements begun under the Ottoman Empire that they are for some reason against, that they were the victims of horrific crimes 😒🤬
Piker refrains from making any overtly antisemitic remarks. However, his biased and historically inaccurate definition of Zionism as "the ethno-religious supremacist ideology that Israel must be the homeland for Jewish people," and his frequent misuse of the term, contribute to a degree of ambiguity and confusion. By essentially describing Zionism as a "colonial project," Piker denies Israel's legitimacy, arguing that the country does not grant equal rights to Palestinians in the West Bank, who, he said, live de facto under its control.

According to Piker, nearly 30% of his audience left after the massacres carried out by Hamas on October 7, 2023. At that time, the commentator insisted on putting these attacks into perspective, even downplaying them, by placing them in the broader context of the Palestinians' long struggle for their rights. This indifference to the suffering of the victims reflected an inability to understand the Israeli tragedy, in addition to that of the Palestinians in Gaza, who were soon to come under the army's indiscriminate fire and to suffer what he describes as a "genocide." He still stands by this position when questioned:

."I don't think that there would be an October 7-style incident if there wasn't 75 years of apartheid," he said.

"It was not an incident," I countered.

"Yes, October 7, whatever you want to call it..."

"No, whatever you want to call it."

"The tragedy of October 7, the war crimes that took place, an event like this would not happen if 75 years of apartheid did not lead up to that point. It's an act of desperation. So..."

"Raping someone is not an act of desperation. It is just a crime."

"Yes, but regardless, people are not born to be savages. They turn into that due to their environment."

At the end of August, Piker sparked a new controversy by suggesting on Twitch that American Jews, by appearing to be unconditional supporters of Israel, exposed themselves to violence. "You're running around, basically tying your entire identity to a country that inevitably will be seen as basically Jewish ISIS [in reference to the terrorist organization], and you're saying, as Jews, this is all we care about. You're making antisemitism worse," he dared to say.”

Collins painted Ossoff as a 'trust fund kid' who 'wants you riding on mass transit.’

In many of the most heated moments of the debate, Mr. Collins returned to one of his favorite attacks against Mr. Ossoff: that he comes from a wealthy family.

Read a 5 paragraph article about a 10/7 commemoration before making a comment challenge Difficulty level: impossible
The background is black overall. White writing on a red background or highlighting: MEDIAPART VIENT DE PUBLIER LES PREUVES DES PROPOS DE BARDELLA.

MEDIAPART (a leftist newspaper) HAS JUST PUBLISHED EVIDENCE OF BARDELLA'S REMARKS. (They published the accusations in the first story.)

In the center of the meme is a photo of Jordan Bardella, a 35-40ish man in a suit, who is good looking and fit. On either side of his portrait are images of facebook messenger messages.

At the center bottom of the meme in black sans serif text in a white box with rounded corners it says, “Antisémite et menteur.” That means antisemite and liar.

For context, Jordan Bardella is the head of Rassemblement national (National Rally or RN, the far-right political party founded by former members of the Vichy regime).

He is the second-in-command to Marine Le Pen, and she has said that she will appoint him to be her prime minister, or head of government, if she is elected president next year, as is widely expected. The PM chooses the cabinet, so it’s a big deal.

Some of the facebook messenger messages, are cut off, and they’re all ick, so I really don’t want to copy or translate them, but they’re standard anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, including that Jews control the banks, for example the Rothschilds and Lehman Brothers, a bank which had been out of business for years at the time he wrote it, so he’s a moron, in addition to being a crank.

After Mediapart wrote a story that he had written these messages and hung out with a politician who was too antisemitic for RN—they kicked him out—he said they were defaming him, and talked about how he walked in solidarity on 10/7.

Then they published the messages, which is why it ends with:

Antisémite et menteur. antisemite and liar .

.We, journalists working in newsrooms with diverse editorial policies, jointly and unreservedly condemn the death threats issued by the far-right Rassem-blement National (RN) party against our colleagues at Mediapart, as well as the far right's many attacks against journalists throughout the country.

By suggesting that Mediapart put on "its Kevlar suit" (that is, a bulletproof vest), RN leader Marine Le Pen put a target on journalists' backs.

Such violent attempts at intimidation are the hallmark of authoritarian regimes worldwide, and are especially alarming for the right to information, a right to which a democratic country's people are entitled.

Press freedom, protected by the European Convention on Human Rights and international law, makes journalism an essential counter-power. It is alarming that political leaders who aspire to govern the country could behave in such a way.

Journalists investigate on the basis of evidence, report facts, explain, analyze and expose well-oiled communication campaigns, always respecting ethical standards, regardless of their outlet's tendency. Under no circumstances should they face intimidation for having done their job.

Teenagers from parts of cities that were literally on fire found a positive, anti-racist youth group. The People’s Temple was progressive, politically popular, and embarrassingly well-connected to those in power. The news article is from the Berkeley Barb daily.jstor.org/one-womans-p...
Photo of mostly Black, and also white and Asian teens, wearing jeans and white t-shirts with a lion’s head. The group would be unremarkable today, but was still uncommon in the early to mid 1970s. They’re all smiling and looking happy, like in a yearbook photo or just a picture of friends they’d look back on later.

TEMPLE Teenagers LOOKING FORWARD TO A BRIGHT FUTURE IN THEIR NEW HOME: MOST OF THE YOUNG PEOPLE PICTURED HERE WERE LIVING IN THE GHETTOS OF SAN FRANCISCO AND LOS ANGELES. YOUNG LADIES WEARING LION'S HEAD T-SHIRTS ARE MEMBERS OF THE JONESTOWN ONE OF "DRILL Team,” one of MANY PERFORMING GROUPS RESIDENTS HAVE PUT TOGETHER.

Beginning of text on next photo

Jonestown aftermath: Dilemma for the left

By Mark Powelson
When we fled the racism of Indiana for California, we really believed we were coming to the Promised Land." These were the words of a former member of Peoples Temple.

When Northern California ceased to provide a hospitable home for the Temple, a new Promised Land was held out to the faithful - Guyana. A place to build a true socialist society. Free from harrass-ment, racism and the constraints of capitalism.

"What a wonderful thing it is... to die in the fight against fascism." These were the last words of at least one of the chosen people in the final hour in the Promised Land.

"Every thought in my head is coming through the CIA," Rev. Jim Jones is reported as telling a Scandinavian psychologist visiting the Temple's Jonestown settlement.

What are we to make of these images and this rhetoric? Only one thing is clear so far: Paranoia makes, as journalists say, hot copy.

Who is responsible? Easy now to find the fault, like Monday morning quarterbacks coaching the apocalypse. Before the first radio reports stopped ringing in our ears we heard, "It must have been a CIA plot, COINTELPRO. Discredit the left. Watergate." .
.The dinosaurs of the right had their own version: They had all those liberals running interference for them, Moscone, Hongisto, Brown. It's totalitarian socialism.

But it is, after all, the left that must now do the soul searching. For it is the left Which will be discredited by the shocking events of the past week

What could we expect from this self-anointed child of Christ and Lenin—an unlikely marriage to be sure. What rough beast, his hour come round at last, slouches toward Bethlehem waiting to be born?

The left was fascinated with Jones and his Peoples Temple. Fascinated because Jones seemed to exemplify that most elusive trait: the ability to get things done, to reach the people, to mobilize, to act.

[Berkeley, California] Barb staffers remember with amazement when the Peoples Temple regularly sold 500 Barbs a week. Organizers recall the two thousand demonstrators Jones produced for the International Hotel showdown. Day care, medical care, soup kitchen, a widely distributed newspaper. It was all very impressive.

Jones seemed to be a genuine "progressive.” He never failed to support the "correct" side of every pressing social issue. And he was apparently able to command the attention of liberal politicians and express his constituents needs.

But above all, his power seemed to stem from an ability to activate his followers. To put it crudely, Jones could put warm bodies on the line, be it for demonstrations, envelope stuffing, precinct work, letter writing or voting. Jones' masses were there.
Yet, correct leftist position notwithstanding, no observer who penetrated beyond the superficial levels could fail to sense the oppressive atmosphere of the Temple's internal organization—the cult of personality, the rigid authoritarianism of Jones' style and methods.

Envious of Jones' highly disciplined support, the left hesitated to question, refused to publicly criticize.

Why was it so difficult to recall that the

I just bought it, or several of them, so I can’t speak to the taste, but I generally like Amy’s products, for what they are, at least, and the frozen wraps are a decent $2-$3 meal when they’re on sale or if I bother to go to target.

It’s so much worse in the U.S. than elsewhere, and maybe it’s because our culture doesn’t make those differentiations. The citizens of most countries read so much more than we do. Just look at this library list for a Russian prison—and Eduard Limonov wasn’t highly educated, he was just well-read.

n the library of Moscow's Lefortovo prison, my fellow-inmates and I could choose from great novelists such as Charlotte Bront and Marcel Proust or existentialists such as Samucl Beckett and Albert Camus. For escapism, there were celebrity memoirs by Michelle Obama and Arnold Schwarzenegger If we preferred something a bit closer to home, we could find the works of the Soviet dissident Alcksandr Solzhenitsyn, who, like us, had spent time in Lefortovo. There were offerings in economics, history, math, and psychology, and even some in contemporary fiction: the American novelist Donna Tart, the South Korean Nobel Prize laureate Han Kang.
When I expressed surprise about the diverse selection to my lawyers, soon after landing in Lefortovo, in March, 2023, they pointed out that many highly educated people had spent time in the prison and left their books behind. At least one had even written his own book there—Eduard Limonov, the part nationalist, part jester writer, and politician, who drafted "Imprisoned by Dead Men" during his fifteen-month detention in the carly two-thousands.

Damn, my dad and I are catching strays from a book from 2004
From the introduction to the Tour de France Companion by Bob Roll. Some of the book is out of date, but most of it isn’t. This is an extremely personal attack from a total stranger:

In terms of general entertainment value, understanding, and fun, the Tour de France is absolutely accessible. The problem is snobbery.
In the pre-Armstrong days, you often got the sense that the folks who really loved the Tour were the same ones who only listened to vinyl, considered donuts inferior to croissants, and would have been perfectly happy to own televisions tuned solely to PBS. Although they'd occasionally moan about the American public and its seeming rejection of pro cycling in favor of big-time, major league sports, I always got a sense—as Armstrong opened the sport to more and more people—that they were just slightly milled that their little club was no longer as exclusive.

Aren’t he and his wife in their 70s? His children are middle aged…oh, WHAT?! This is the most surprising part of the article. I probably knew it at one point, but the horrors. So when Gorsuch was being a dick about covid, he had a college-aged daughter at home?
But the protesters did encounter another member of his household. After an August 2025 protest, Ms. Shaw Glaser and other demonstrators were standing near the Port Clyde dock when a young woman approached them with a serious look on her face. She asked them: What did they hope to accomplish? Had they considered how their actions affected the chief justice's wife and children?

Only then did she identity herself. She said she was Josephine Roberts, the chief's daughter, then 25, according to Ms. Shaw Glaser, who wrote about it in her journal. Another protester also wrote about the scene in a message to a friend afterward.

And then excuse Roberts because his position that excising viability from Roe and Casey is different from overturning them, it’s somehow “nuanced,” just like his claim that excising enforcement from the Voting Rights Act is somehow different from overturning the VRA. That’s what he does, NYT
The chief justice's position in the Dobbs case had in fact been nuanced: He had taken a lonely, losing stand in favor of keeping the constitutional right to abortions before 15 weeks. But he had voted with the majority, he was the court's leader, and Ms. Shaw Glaser saw him as responsible for its decisions. Plus he was right there in the community.

My bad, they quote it in the article.
“Should you see Chief Justice John Roberts duck into Squid Ink coffee or the Port Clyde General Store this summer, consider letting him know exactly what you think of him and his illegitimate, ultraconservative court,” she wrote. “Yell, boo, whisper, weep audibly, give him the thumbs down or the finger, hand him a note, refuse to serve him.”

She urged residents to speak with the chief justice, but also to organize boat protests in front of his home. “He might see you,” she wrote.

The art class is clearly “pinot and paint” of some kind. And that’s fine, but for all the misogyny-coded crap shoveled on wine moms, let’s not pretend that this is about color theory and form. George W Bush actually takes more art classes, and I’m guessing his are on youtube.
Photo in the NYT article captioned:
The chief justice at an art class, in a photo provided by a friend of his.

Someone sitting behind Roberts in a room that clearly doubles as a bar—there’s a beer fridge to his right and glasses racked on the ceiling—took a surreptitious photo of the chief justice, wearing khakis and a light blue polo, copying a watercolor painting of a lobster attached to an easel. The woman seated on a stool to his left is copying the same image on an easel of her own.

It would literally kill them to link to the source material
At a long-ago annual summer party, he used to participate in touch football, then call dinner to order by proclaiming: “Oyez, oyez, oyez, the lobsters are ready.”

But in recent years, as the Supreme Court has reshaped American life and handed more power to President Trump, a very personal form of anger has been rising here at the chief justice, transforming his getaways.

His summer retreats, long a well-known fact, are now a source of debate. Neighbors have taken to the water to protest him. Calling themselves “kayak-tivists,” they form flotillas facing his island home, holding waterproof signs conveying their disappointment. A local newspaper columnist recommended that people in town give him the finger.

They apparently aren’t even rows available in Atlanta, and like you, idek what kind of conspiracy they would be getting up to in this highly public (and noisy!) environment after her prosecution had fallen apart?
Senator John Kennedy, who isn’t dumb, but who does have a drinking problem and appeared to be chewing an entire container of zyn and bubblegum, stands holding up one side of the floor chart, along with a staffer, above Senator Eric Schmitt, who is smugly seated.

The floor chart looks like a spread from the New York Post, and shows Atlanta DA Fani Willis, the special prosecutor she briefly dated (and shouldn’t have), the Atlanta NBA stadium neither she nor Jack Smith were at, Jack Smith, and snippets from text messages from Jack Smith’s staff about a different basketball arena that has nothing to do with the Atlanta DA:

February 3, 2024
J.P. Cooney:
Hey man. Is 109 Row 1 reserved for Jack?

J.P. Cooney:
Damn. Thank you for saving--but we are good. Ask Harbach.

Gavin Wallach:
He is already down here.
Thanks.

It doesn’t say anything about who these people are or what they did for Jack Smith .

The @splcenter.org has general advice about psychological voter suppression, and, as always, a lot of great resources for checking your voter registration NOW, yes YOU, in your state! www.splcenter.org/learning-for... www.splcenter.org/resources/gu...
SPLC Learning for Justice

We should never take for granted our rights and our responsibilities to engage in civic action and vote in every election – local and national. As we consider voter suppression in today’s election process, Bland’s question about our voting rights resonates: “If it was not valuable, why are people always trying to take it away from you?”

Reflection and Action
1. You cannot strengthen democracy with cynicism. Believe that change can happen.
Disillusionment and despair are tools for voter suppression. Those who wish to disenfranchise you want you to think your vote doesn’t matter – so that you do not exercise it. No matter the election, never forfeit your vote. Your participation can help bring about the change you seek.

Loper Bright is a direct result of his first term, as were rulings during his first term that said that the EPA can’t regulate clean air, clean water, or greenhouse gases. The start of his 3rd week wasn’t even the first military action! But the cake was good 🙄

Everyone focuses on the same-sex bathroom lady, and for sure someone needs to block her access to certain tv stations, websites, and social media accounts (if not the platforms themselves), but I really like how every single one of them could identify Ken Paxton as a crook, and yet…
One of the NYT sketch idiots, who voted for Trump in 2024, and has lived in Texas for at least 10 years:
Hitesh, 57, Republican, Asian, looking for work
For me, it's both. Ken Paxton and James Talarico - I mean, yeah, the two candidates, they couldn't be any different. It was really crazy that Trump stood behind Paxton. I'm like, what in the world? And he just swung away from John Cornyn, and at the last minute. It was done. And now, since my time in Texas, I've seen him do a pretty good job since he's been here. And going with a candidate that has such a shady background, I'm like, what the heck?

The Kermit the Frog from the Hurt video (and maybe save yourself if you somehow haven’t seen it) with a needle in his mouth and the FEC disclaimer from the republican national committee website that I forgot to visit in a private window sloppily photoshopped to the bottom. It’s white font on a red background, in a white box, that says, “Paid for by the Republican National Committee. I am someone who has voted for our current president twice because I didn't feel like I had another choice based on the beliefs I have. But I do believe our current president has caused a lot of the extremes and a lot of the rhetoric and a lot of the issues where people cannot compromise and people can't get along. I personally am just praying that we get better candidates in the future.

I just realized that United States Senator Roger Marshall thinks that environmentalists are talking about the literal CO2 from cows from their mouths 🐮 I LEARNED ABOUT METHANE AND FARM RUNOFF IN GRADE SCHOOL! Thank you for bringing my attention to this matter, @kansasreflector.com
Hamilton beat out nine other Democratic candidates in the August primary and out-fundraised Marshall.

Marshall tried to paint Hamilton as anti-agriculture, against the cattle industry and against oil and gas.

"If he had his way, he'd go put a plastic bag over the mouths of these dairy cows back here," Marshall said, motioning to the livestock building on the state fairgrounds.

I feel you. Truly incredible that every single former Trump voter in Texas on the NYT panel could identify Ken Paxton as a crook, and yet…
From a Thursday, 24 September 2026 NYT panel of voters who will make you angry or sad.

This particular group was all people who had voted for trump in 2024, and no longer support him, and who have lived in Texas for at least ten years and plan to vote in the midterms.

Moderator, Kristen Soltis Anderson
OK, let's get into the specific candidates. When you hear the name Ken Paxton, what comes to mind?

Robert D., 63, independent, white, retired
Crook.

Sebastian, 50, independent, white, utility manager
Criminal, crook, all those. Yeah.

Lisa, 53, independent, white, technology consultant
Crooked.

Erica, 40, Republican, Latino, customer service
Bad.

Pam, 66, Republican, white, retired
Amoral.

Becky, 51, Democrat, white, retail
Disgusting.

Robert S., 52, Republican, Latino, human resources
Two words: morally corrupt.

Hitesh, 57, Republican, Asian, looking for work Disgusting.

Vince, 48, Democrat, Asian, auditor
Corrupt.

Jennifer, 50, Republican, white, stay-at-home parent
Womanizer. Crook.

Dennis, 62, Republican, white, retired
Crook is the word that comes to my mind.

Jeffrey, 34, independent, Latino, school counselor
Controversial. There's just so many things that he's been accused of and acquitted of. And I took a more neutral approach to your question. So controversial, but more in a negative way.
.Hitesh, 57, Republican, Asian, looking for work
