Ah! An extra, a surprise, from this VitalFarms egg :)
cast iron skillet holds four eggs in the process of being cooked "over easy"; one is a double-yolked egg! Yolk colors are rich orange. Pan is black. Whites are half-cooked.

Picture me (baking frenzy past few days) with a tin of Magenbrot staring at me. Challenging me to cut off just a bit to sample. ... ... (oh. yes.)
an open tin cookie container with Magenbrot inside -- diagonals (rather like thick-cut biscotti) of dark brown baked cookie that's been slathered with a candy-sugar sort of coating. amazingly delicious

Just for the record, Cornish pasties are entirely decadent
2 baked savory pasties, a sort of pie you could hold, in a half moon shape. Very flaky rich pastry

Many (white-tailed) deer seen in walk through town/neighbourhoods to the Co-op (grocer's). On the way there, a boy and his (hoped for) harem; on way home, just the girls being naughty by nibbling rose bushes. #deer #wildlife #walk
4 of the 6-7 deer seen first seen. in empty grassy-weedy lot in neighbourhood. mature trees, some changing to red. in center, behind post of a stop sign is the male, with antlers, and intent on one of females. others nibbling and nearest one looking at me.5 female whte-tailed deer nibbling on shrubs including roses between paved street littered with leaves and a circa 1900s well-cared-for two story blue house. a 'no parking' sign can be seen next to 2 of left-most deer

So a very “fall” (autumn) day and launching right into baking mode. Strawberry pecan quick bread recipe I’m trying out here—then, this afternoon, grape pie. Excuse, pls, the condition of the oven window etc #baking

You (and your choice) have bewitched me. I've been curious about this saga for some time. (just ordered, dammit) I read widely differing things (some oddity of my psyche?), but anyway -- a favourite is in quite another vein from Peake ...
cover of book shows smiling woman in 1960s Welsh whitewashed cottage front yard surrounded by chickens, goats, etc. The book is "Valley of Animals" by Elma M. Williams

Great evening last night with the appropriately loquacious ☺️ @ruthwarewriter.bsky.social -- Q & A (and #newbook ) at Boise's beautiful Egyptian Theatre What a treat 🍰
on my desk, a brand new book: "The Woman in Suite 11" (US cover) by Ruth Ware, along with various papers (my ticket, received brochure)

After yesterday's (welcome) rain, I walked. At one point I caught a glimpse of a strange movement in a backed-up gutter at a street corner. Upon closer inspection, it was a tiny frog (1"/3cm) clinging to a fallen leaf. #nature #walks
a shallow pool of water at an intersection's graded cut-away. a few larger fallen leaves -- shades of pale greens -- have landed there following the rain. a tiny dark brown frog, barely visible, clings to a leaf's edge

One of my favorite books in the world is *Valley of Animals* by Elma M. Williams. And here is Jezebel who is brilliant, communicative, rather possessive, and sports the most magnificent whiskers. (happy birthday!!)
A black and white cat sits in a sphinx pose, but with head turned toward camera. The late-day sun is catching many individual hairs which shine brightly. She's on a shelf; behind is an African violet(?). Her expression is sage and mysterious.

The borage is being somewhat over-exuberant…as is its wont. Tomato stoically enduring. #gardens
Densely planted bit of garden. Colors predominantly green and violet-blue (which are the borage flowers in foreground). They’re 5-point star shaped and numerous, leaning off the stem in several directions. Fuzzy, they look almost backlit

Bert Bunny sends earnest greetings!
A very small cottontail rabbit in pale shades of grays and browns sits in very large (2.5 ft. diam.?) plant saucer that was repurposed to catch seeds from birdfeeder above (not visible). Behind are fallen needles from pine plus old and worn wooden wheelbarrow with rusting wheel. Bunny is alert and large black(?) eye is watching! Ears are alert and swivelling to catch any nearby disturbance.

I'm just catching up on the #rabbitrabbit thing, but serendipitously, we've recently met a small fella who's spending time in our back garden of late, and who explored our (outbuilding) studio briefly, just yesterday. This is Bert
sitting still atop old linoleum tile in shades of sage is a Mountain Cottontail rabbit, a young one not larger than a quart jar, with shiny alert black eye and a coat of browns and grays. Not visible (they're sitting on it) is the white "cotton ball" tail that gives it its name.

I suppose I am the last person on Bluesky to have read Shirley Jackson's *The Haunting of Hill House*... what crystalline brilliance The opening paragraph is itself a masterwork in #horror (transcribed in alt text) Also pleased she had no fear of semicolons ;
No live organism can continue for long to exist sanely under conditions of absolute reality; even larks and katydids are supposed, by some, to dream. Hill House, not sane, stood by itself against its hills, holding darkness within; it had stood so for eighty years and might stand for eighty more. Within, walls continued upright, bricks met neatly, floors were firm, and doors were sensibly shut; silence lay steadily against the wood and stone of Hill House, and whatever walked there, walked alone.

in corner of my room, beside book stacks, is a light gray surface upon which you "paint" with water using a bamboo brush. I've made wavy lines to suggest tall grasses and within is a rough approximate of a rabbit with two ears erect and tiny eyes, nose, mouth.

As I may've mentioned, for 2025 I plan* to (a) set a books-read goal and (b) avoid excessive dithering by identifying beforehand what books I'll read next. Monumental tho feasible. Useful. *the noise you hear is the gods laughing #booksky #reading #planning

One of my ... plans (avoiding the R [resolution] word) ... for 2025 is to begin (a) planning in advance which book to read next, and alongside that (b) setting a Books Read goal. (Beaming admiration at you who do that already.) Pictured: one bookcase Collecting; it's a mania. #booksky

Off I go to bake cookies (gingerbread, vanillekipferl -- annual tradition for former; first try at the latter). I leave the front garden and the festivities at the squirrel pagoda to the local #squirrel populace.
Three squirrels approach (while one is already at) a small-scale (around 1 foot high?) green-painted, 8-sided, single-level pagoda-type structure in which a bowl of seeds and peanuts sits. It’s situated in a sea of previously-eaten sunflower seed shells along with spruce tree needles. This is situated in a front garden, brown and green as it’s winter. An old cement walkway is visible on the left.
